{"id":74923,"date":"2014-02-07T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-02-06T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dhgshop.it\/pongee-silk-the-ideal-fabric-for-batik\/"},"modified":"2026-05-13T12:39:52","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T10:39:52","slug":"pongee-silk-the-ideal-fabric-for-batik","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dhgshop.performize.io\/en\/pongee-silk-the-ideal-fabric-for-batik\/","title":{"rendered":"Pongee Silk &#8211; the ideal fabric for Batik"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">A nice smooth fabric, with a compact yet fluid weave, silky: this is what you need for Batik. <\/span><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">When using pongee silk, colors are brighter<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">, more beautiful; the small copper tool used to distribute the wax on the surface of the silk glides perfectly, no errors or dribbles.<\/span><br><\/p><br><br><p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The lines are precise and even small details come out well. <\/span><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Batik is amazing<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"> with its colorful prints, as clear on the front as on the back!<\/span><\/p><br><br><p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">When attending art school I was fascinated<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">with textiles more than anything; felt was a mystery, we didn\u2019t know what it was and serigraphic printing was arduous. Block printing and stenciling &#8211; which, to tell the truth, we used to call mask printing &#8211; didn\u2019t give stunning results.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">That\u2019s why, if I had any free time at school, which happened a lot,<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"> <\/span><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">I used my time to make Batik<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">: the school that I attended wasn\u2019t the cage that frightens so many kids; for me, it was like going to a party.<\/span><br><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">So I would go to the library and read l\u2019<\/span><em><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Etude De La Plante by Verneuil.<\/span><\/em><\/p><p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dhgshop.performize.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/libro-seta.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><br><\/span><\/em><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">At school,<\/span><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"> we had a copy of that amazing book<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">, hand printed in 1908 with gorgeous illustrations, a sort of Bible of Art Nouveau, with dozens and dozens of studies of leaves, fruit, and flowers, all analyzed and interpreted into elegant, linear decorative motifs. Humble, everyday plants like the periwinkle or the cyclamen became borders and modulated or placed patterns.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">So filled with what I learned from this book,<\/span><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"> I would sit and compose my designs for foulards and decorative panels<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">, which, thanks to Batik, I was even able to make. The great thing is that they didn\u2019t seem like school projects but real prints!<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The fabric? We used whatever we could find in the big wooden closet in our laboratory.  It was <\/span><strong><a title=\"Pong\u00e8e Silk\" href=\"https:\/\/dhgshop.performize.io\/item-fabrics-cottonsilk-voile-by-the-meter_0_0_2_62_19.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">pongee silk<\/span><\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">, as far as I know, but I didn\u2019t know how to give it a name. <\/span><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">For us, it was the silk<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">.
