THEME OF THE CLASS<\/b>
<\/span><\/p>

Many consider eco-printing as an evolution of the traditional methods of natural dyeing. However, while for the latter you mordant the fabric and then you put it into a decoction of plants or into a bath of dyeing extracts, in the eco-printing process dye plants (as well as plants that are not traditionally used for dyeing) are directly applied to the fabric that you want to dye or print.<\/span>
During this workshop, which is the evolution of the one we already hosted in November 2016, you will learn the basics of ecoprinting, (so it is also suitable for beginners), but you will also explore new mordanting techniques for wool and silk. You will have a chance to experiment with techniques combining ecoprint, shibori and tie-dye, as well as with some inks of vegetable origin.<\/span>

More specifically, these are the topics we are going to deal with:<\/span><\/p>

\u2022 general introduction to natural dyes<\/span>
\u2022 Ecoprinting as a sustainable dyeing technique<\/span>
\u2022 preparing and mordanting (including cold mordanting) fabrics<\/span>
\u2022 preparing dye baths<\/span>
\u2022 dye plants and plants for eco-printing<\/span>
\u2022 using metals and vinegar-based preparations<\/span>
\u2022 preparing dye rolls<\/span>
\u2022 cooking and unfolding dye rolls<\/span>
\u2022 color variations and possible solutions<\/span>
\u2022 double dyes, base dye using extracts and overlapping<\/span>
\u2022 drying and washing<\/span>
\u2022 recycling dye baths<\/span>
\u2022 how to take care of naturally dyed clothes and fabrics<\/span>
\u2022 techniques combining ecoprint, tie-dye and shibori<\/span>
\u2022 preparation and use of inks for eco-printed fabrics<\/span><\/p>
