The hooded scarf made for us by Manusa, is certainly not one of the easiest projects that we have ever proposed, but it\u2019s definitely worth the effort! So be patient and all your hard work will pay off. That\u2019s a promise!<\/span><\/p>

The yarns that were used are the <\/span>Vintage yarn<\/span><\/strong>, mixed with alpaca cotton and <\/span>Piuma yarn<\/span><\/strong> in extra fine pure merino wool. Both have wonderful colour charts so be daring in choosing a combination that you like the most. We have used colours that are from the idea of a Nordic Christmas\u2026However our advice is to use colours that you love the most!<\/span><\/p>

Tutorial: how to make a hooded scarf<\/h2>

MATERIALS<\/span>
<\/strong>Vintage yarn<\/a> <\/b>col. Chocolate 240 g \/ 8.4 oz<\/span>
Vintage yarn <\/b>col. Scotland 160 g \/ 5.6 oz<\/span>
Piuma yarn<\/a> <\/b>col. <\/span>Natural White<\/span> <\/span>190 g \/ 6.7 oz <\/span>
Circular needles<\/b> <\/span>n\u00b0 <\/span>9 EU \/ 13 US
<\/span>Circular needles<\/b> <\/span>n\u00b0<\/span> 7 EU \/ 10\u00bd US
<\/span>Double pointed needle<\/b> <\/span>n\u00b0 <\/span>7 EU \/ 10\u00bd US
<\/span>Crochet hook<\/b> <\/span>n\u00b0 <\/span>7 EU \/ 10\u00bd US

KNIT-CROCHET STITCHES USED

Cable stitch<\/u>:<\/span>
round 1<\/b>: purl 3, knit 6, purl 3<\/span>
round 2<\/b>: knit the stitches as they appear<\/span>
round 3<\/b>: work as round 1<\/span>
round 4<\/b>: work as round 2<\/span>
round 5<\/b>: purl 3, put 3 stitches on the double pointed needle and leave them at the front of the work, work the next 3 stitches, pick up the stitches on the double pointed needle and knit them, purl 3. Repeat until you have 7 weaves and finish with 5 smooth rows.<\/span><\/p>

Garter stitch with circular needles<\/u>:
<\/span>round 1<\/b>: knit
<\/span>round 2<\/b>: purl<\/span><\/p>

Crochet chain stitch<\/span>
Single crochet stitch
<\/span>Crochet puff stitch<\/u>:
<\/span>with the hook cast on a chain of 10 stitches
<\/span>round 1<\/b>: single crochet
<\/span>round 2<\/b>: turn over the work and raise the yarn by about 2cm, put the yarn on the hook, insert it into the single crochet from the previous row, raise it by about 2cm, repeat 3 times and bind off the stitches all together.<\/span><\/p>


<\/p>

METHOD
<\/span><\/b>First of all let\u2019s start with the scarf.
<\/span>Using the hook cast on 80 stitches with 4 rows of Vintage yarn Col. Scotland and close the circle. Proceed with the rest of the work with 2 rows per colour.<\/span><\/p>


<\/p>

Round 1<\/b>: with the hook work the single crochet and bind off with a slip stitch, put the stitch marker at the beginning of the round, turn over moving the stitch marker at every round<\/span>
round <\/b>2<\/b>: work the single crochet stitch<\/span>
round <\/b>3, 4 and 5<\/b>: work the single crochet stitch turning over at the end of each round<\/span>
round <\/b>6<\/b>: work the slip stitch with the Piuma yarn for all the round<\/span>
round <\/b>7<\/b>: with the Vintage yarn col. Chocolate, work a puff on each single crochet made with Col. Scotland on the 5th round.<\/span>
round <\/b>8, 9, 10, 11 and 12<\/b>: with the Piuma yarn work the single crochet<\/span>
round <\/b>13<\/b>: with the Vintage yarn Col. Scotland, work the slip stitch<\/span>
round <\/b>14<\/b>: work the slip stitch entering from behind the single crochet made with Piuma yarn on the round 12.<\/span>
round <\/b>15, 16 and 17<\/b>: work the slip stitch (4 rounds in total)<\/span>
round <\/b>19<\/b>: with the Piuma yarn work the puffs skipping a loop and chaining between one puff and another.<\/span>
round <\/b>20<\/b>: with the circular needles no.9 knit a round taking half crochet stitches from the previous round. Work the garter stitch for 12 rows.<\/span>
round <\/b>33, 34, 35 and 36<\/b>: knit stitch with the Vintage yarn Col. Scotland (4 rounds in total)<\/span>
round <\/b>37, 38, 39, 40, 41 and 42<\/b>: purl with Piuma yarn (6 rounds in total)<\/span>
round <\/b>43, 44, 45 and 46<\/b>: knit stitch with Vintage yarn Col.Scotland (4 rounds in total)<\/span>
round <\/b>46<\/b>: with the hook work the Vintage yarn Col. Chocolate with slip stitch<\/span>
round <\/b>47, 48 and 49<\/b>: with the hook work the Vintage yarn Col. Chocolate with slip stitch<\/span>
round <\/b>50<\/span><\/b>: knit the slip stitch with the Piuma yarn<\/span><\/p>


<\/p>

Making the hood<\/h3>

Now it\u2019s time to make the actual hood.<\/span><\/p>


<\/p>

With the circular needles no.7 and the Vintage yarn Col. Chocolate pick up the stitches made with Vintage yarn Col. Scotland (80 stitches in total).<\/span>
Round 1<\/b>: carry out* knit 9, knit 2 together*, repeat from * to * to end up with 70 stitches<\/span>
round <\/b>2<\/b>: knit the first 2 stitches together, knit 66 and then pick up the last 2 stitches together (68 stitches in total)<\/span>
round <\/b>3<\/b>: remove the stitch marker, turn over the work and knit stitch<\/span>
From now on the process alternates from a knit row to a purl row as if you had consistent rows.<\/span>
round <\/b>4<\/b>: purl<\/span>
round <\/b>5<\/b>: knit the first 2 stitches together, knit 64 and then pick up the last 2 stitches together (66 stitches in total)<\/span>
round <\/b>6<\/span><\/b>: purl<\/span>
Continue to drop like this until you have 64 stitches in total.<\/span>
At this point continue purling: start working the inlay stitch, layer the Vintage yarn Col. Chocolate 2 stitches on each row until you have just 2 stitches of this colour in the central part of the work (see figure).<\/span><\/p>


<\/p>

Once the inlay is finished continue with the Vintage yarn Col. Chocolate for 19 rows.<\/span><\/p>


<\/p>

Split up the stitches in this way: 26 Vintage yarn Col. Chocolate \u2013 12 Piuma yarn \u2013 26 Vintage yarn Col. Chocolate.<\/span><\/p>


<\/p>

Knit separately. The 12 central stitches must be cable stitched with Piuma yarn.<\/span><\/p>


<\/p>

The shaping of the tip of the hood<\/span>
<\/strong>Row 1<\/b>: knit 26<\/span>
row 2<\/b>: purl<\/span>
row 3<\/b>: knit 24, knit the last 2 together<\/span>
row 4<\/b>: purl<\/span>
row 5<\/b>: continue like this until you have 20 stitches. Bind off.<\/span>
Skip the 12 central stitches and do the same on the other side as shown.<\/span><\/p>


<\/p>

Cable<\/span>
<\/strong>Pickup the 12 hanging stitches and work as follows:<\/span>
Row 1<\/b>: purl 3, knit 6, purl 3<\/span>
row 2<\/b>: work the stitches as they are (knit 3, purl 6, knit 3)<\/span>
Repeat the 1st and 2nd round 3 times (6 rows in total)<\/span><\/p>

<\/p>

Bind off<\/span>
<\/strong>Purl 3, put the next 3 stitches on a double pointed needle and leave them at the front of the work, purl the next 3 stitches and pick up the hanging ones (the cable is worked on 6 stitches in total), purl the last 3.<\/span>
Repeat the rounds1and 2 for 5 rows.<\/span>
Repeat the weave until you have 7 knots, finish with 5 rows stockinette stitched.<\/span><\/p>


<\/p>

Seam<\/span>
<\/strong>To close the hood sew the cable and embroider with a stitch of your choice.<\/span>
Some finishing touches and your hooded scarf is almost done.<\/span>
Starting from the centre of the neck at the front, work with Vintage yarn Col. Chocolate as follows: * 1 puff, 1 chain* skip a bottom stitch and repeat from * to * for a total of 61 puffs.<\/span>
Single crochet stitch and slip stitch stitch the bottom loop of the previous round.<\/span><\/p>

Your hooded scarf is finally finished and ready to wear. Now you\u2019re ready to face even the coldest of winters.. in style!<\/span>
