The first tutorial of <\/span>our super crafty Christmas<\/span><\/strong><\/a> is dedicated to the creation of a super cute bear, made using the amigurumi technique (or crochet, not to use Japanese). Featuring some of our winter yarns, the pattern has a low difficulty rating so anyone can have a go. This project is by <\/span>Airali Design – Ilaria Caliri<\/span><\/a><\/strong>, a really gifted crocheter, designer and blogger who we just had to have on board this adventure, as she\u2019s got an aesthetic sense that we\u2019re crazy about!<\/span><\/p>

We\u2019ve got two versions of the amigurumi bear, a white one and a brown one and each wearing a different stripy scarf, which you can choose to copy these versions or indulge your whims and mix up other combinations. There\u2019s a large selection of colours to choose from in the yarns available on our site.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tutorial: how to make an amigurumi bear<\/h2>

To make the amigurumi bear you need to work the body as one piece, starting from the legs up to the neck. Instead, all the other pieces will be worked separately and then sewn onto the body. We\u2019ve used knitting abbreviations throughout the tutorial which you can find under the heading <\/span>Stitches.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

How to make the bear’s head<\/h3>\n

Depending on which bear you choose to make, take the Piuma yarn in colour Natural White or Marrakech and get a crochet hook <\/span>n\u00b0 4 EU \/ G-6 US<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

Start stuffing the head and continue stuffing while you\u2019re working.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

With the black embroidery thread and a wool needle, embroider the nose between rounds 19 and 20 and the snout between rounds 21 and 22.<\/span><\/p>

How to make the amigurumi bear’s ears<\/h3>\n

Still using Piuma yarn in colour Natural White or Marrakech and a crochet hook <\/span>n\u00b0 4 EU \/ G-6 US<\/span> start working as so:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

Round 1<\/span><\/strong>: cast on 6 sc in the magic ring (6)<\/span>
round 2<\/span><\/strong>: 6 incs (12).<\/span>
<\/p>

From the round 3 to the round 5 {3 rounds}:<\/span><\/strong> sc all the sts (12).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

Cut the thread leaving enough for sewing. Don\u2019t stuff the ear, but instead flatten it into a semicircle shape. Sew the ears onto the side of the head between rows 8 and 12.<\/span><\/p>

How to make the bear’s legs<\/h3>\n

Continue using the yarn that you\u2019ve chosen for the project and crochet hook <\/span>n\u00b0 4 EU \/ G-6 US<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

Round 1<\/span><\/strong>: cast on 6 sc in the magic ring (6)
<\/span>round 2<\/span><\/strong>: 6 incs (12)<\/span>
round 3<\/span><\/strong>: (inc in the following sts, sc in the following sts) rep 6 times (18)<\/span>
round 4<\/span><\/strong>: (inc in the following sts, sc in the following 2 sts) rep 6 times (24)<\/span><\/p>

From the round 5 to the round 8 {4 rounds}:<\/span><\/strong> sc all the sts (24).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

Cut and secure the thread. Make the other leg but don\u2019t cut the thread and continue working the body.<\/span><\/p>

How to make the amigurumi bear’s body <\/h3>\n

Still using the chosen yarn and the<\/span> crochet hook <\/span>n\u00b0 4 EU \/ G-6 US<\/span>, continue working and put the second leg near to the first one and go ahead with these steps:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

Round 9<\/span><\/strong>: sc in the following 21 sts of the first leg, skip the last 3 sts of the first leg and the next 3 sts of the second leg, sc in the following 21 sts of the second leg, place a stitch marker in the last sts [42]<\/span>
round 10<\/span><\/strong>: (inc in the following sts, sc in the following 13 sts) rep 3 times (45)<\/span>
round 11<\/span><\/strong>: (inc in the following sts, sc in the following 14 sts) rep 3 times (48)<\/span>

To finalise your work you now need to make the arms using the Piuma yarn and the crochet hook <\/span>n\u00b0 4 EU \/ G-6 US<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

Round 1<\/span><\/strong>: cast on 5 sc in the magic ring (5)
<\/span>round 2<\/span><\/strong>: <\/b>5 incs (10)
<\/span>round 3<\/span><\/strong>: <\/b>(inc in the following sts, sc in the following sts) rep 5 times (15).<\/span><\/p>

From the round 4 to the round 10 {7 rounds}:<\/span><\/strong> sc all the sts (15).<\/span><\/p>

How to make the tail of the amigurumi bear <\/h3>

Using the Piuma yarn in Natural white or Marrakech and with a crochet hook <\/span>n\u00b0 4 EU \/ G-6 US<\/span> start working as so:<\/span><\/p>

Round 1<\/span><\/strong>: cast on 6 sc in the magic ring (6)<\/span>
round 2<\/span><\/strong>: 6 incs (12).<\/span><\/p>

From the round 3 round to the round 5 {3 rounds}:<\/span><\/strong> sc all the sts (12)<\/span><\/p>\n

Cut the thread leaving enough to sew with. Don\u2019t stuff the tail, but instead flatten it as if to make a semicircle. Sew it onto the back of the body where you think is best.<\/span><\/p>


<\/h3>

How to make the scarf for the amigurumi bear<\/h3>

Lastly, to add a touch of style to the bear we\u2019ve chosen to create a scarf to match each version: for the white bear we\u2019ve used Cyrcus yarn colour. Black Cherry. You\u2019ll need a crochet hook n\u00b0 5 EU \/ <\/span>H-8 US<\/span> and then cast on 1+3 ch (the 3 ch always count as 1 dc).<\/span><\/p>

Row 1<\/span><\/strong>: 2 dc in the fourth ch from the hook, turn the work over<\/span>
row 2 – 6<\/span><\/strong> <\/span>{5 rows}<\/span><\/strong>: 3 ch and 1 dc in the first sts (to get the increase), work the dc until the end of the stripe, turn the work over<\/span>
row 7 \u2013 41<\/span><\/strong> <\/span>{or until you get to a length of 65 cm \/ 25.6″}<\/span><\/strong>: 3 ch (counts as 1 dc), dc in all the sts, turn [8]<\/span>
row 42 \u2013 46<\/span><\/strong>: 3 ch (counts as 1 dc), dc all the sts until 2 sts from the end of the stripe, skip 1 sts, dc the last sts of the stripe, turn the work over.<\/span><\/p>

Finish off the scarf by turning the work over and make 1 sl st in the last sts of the stripe to close the scarf with a pointy end. Cut and secure the thread.<\/span><\/p>

Now all that\u2019s left to do is create 2 pompoms with the Cyrcus yarn colour. Cotton Candy and sew them onto both ends of the scarf.<\/span><\/p>

To make the 2 pompoms we suggest reading the tutorial on how to make a seamless beanie.<\/span><\/p>

However, for <\/span>Bruno bear<\/span><\/strong> we\u2019ve used Piuma yarn in the colours Ireland and Paradise.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

You\u2019ll need the crochet hook n\u00b0 5 EU \/<\/span> <\/span>H-8 US<\/span> for this one too and just follow the same chart as for the white bear\u2019s, changing colour every 2 strips. To change the colour, don\u2019t cut the thread but leave it hanging and pick it up in the next 2 rows, taking care not to stretch the filo too much.<\/span><\/p>
