It\u2019s a top down sweater with cable bobble stitch, what else on <\/span>Sweater Day<\/span><\/a><\/strong>?! It\u2019s got long cuffs (so long that they can be folded over, making the sleeve shorter), high neck, and a gorgeous pattern on the front, giving the sweater a touch of originality.<\/span><\/p>

I know you can wait to get started, so on we go to the tutorial for the sweater with cable bobble stitch.<\/span><\/p>

\n<\/p>

This type of sweater is worked in the round using circular needles, from top to bottom. It\u2019s worked as one piece so it\u2019s got the added <\/span>benefit of being seamless<\/span><\/strong>. The stitches are gradually increased from the neck over to the sleeves, which are left hanging to be picked up later on.<\/span><\/p>

How to make a sweater with cable bobble stitch<\/h2>

MATERIALS<\/span><\/strong>
Piuma yarn<\/a> <\/b>col. Ireland <\/span>500 g \/ 17.6 oz [S] <\/span>600 g \/ 21.2 oz [M] <\/span>700 g \/ 24.7 oz [L]<\/span>
Circular knitting needles <\/span><\/strong>n\u00b0 8 EU \/ 11 US<\/span>
Cables <\/b>40, 60 and 100 cm <\/b><\/span>\/ 15.8″, 23.6″ and 39.4″<\/span>
Stitch markers<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

GAUGE<\/span><\/strong>
10 cm x 10 cm \/ 4″ x 4″ of the stockinette stitch worked in the round
<\/span>11 stitches X 18 rows<\/span><\/p>

KNIT STITCHES USED<\/span><\/strong>
Knit<\/span>
Purl<\/span>
Rib 1\/1<\/u>:
all the rounds knit 1 and purl 1 to the end of the round.<\/span>
Hazelnut<\/u>:
work 5 stitches in 1 (knit 1, knit 1 through the back of the loop, knit 1, knit 1 through the back of the loop, knit 1), turn the work over and purl 5, turn it over and knit 5, turn it over and purl 5, turn it over again and knit 5. Now pass over 4 stitches starting from the second stitch of the right needle.<\/span>
Right cable (4\/4 RC)<\/u>:
cross 8 stitches to the right= leave 4 stitches on hold on a cable needle hold in back, knit 4, knit the 4 stitches on hold.<\/span>
Left cable (4\/4 LC)<\/u>:
cross 8 stitches to the left = leave 4 stitches on hold on a cable needle hold in front, knit 4, knit the 4 stitches on hold.<\/span>
Decrease<\/u><\/span>:
knit<\/span> 2<\/span> together.
<\/span>Increase<\/u>:
<\/span>kfb is advised, working (without dropping) <\/span>2 stitches<\/span> in the same stitch, knit the first one and the second through the back of the loop.<\/span>
<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

Here’s what to do next to make the sweater with cable bobble stitch<\/h3>\n

All the sizes [S] [M] [L]<\/span><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/span>

Using <\/span>n\u00b0 8 EU \/ 11 US<\/b><\/span> needles<\/span><\/strong> cast on <\/span>48 stitches<\/span><\/strong>, place the <\/span>start of round stitch marker<\/span><\/strong> and bind off in the round.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

Rib stitch 1\/1<\/span><\/strong> <\/span>the first 20 rounds<\/span><\/strong> in the following way: k<\/span>nit 1, purl 1<\/span> repeat to the end of the round.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

Round 21:<\/span><\/strong> place the 3 stitch markers for the increases like so: stitch marker for the start of round, knit 4, place stitch marker, knit 21, place stitch marker, knit 4, place stitch marker, knit 19.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

At this point the increases are begun to shape the sleeves, the front and the back of the sweater. The increases are always done before and after each stitch marker. (apart from the two stitch markers for the central motif which we\u2019ll place later).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

Round 22:<\/span><\/strong> proceed like so<\/span>: increase 1<\/span>, knit until 1 stitch before the stitch marker, <\/span>increase 1<\/span>, pass the stitch marker, <\/span>increase 1<\/span>, knit until 1 stitch before the stitch marker, <\/span>increase 1,<\/span> pass the stitch marker, <\/span>increase 1<\/span>, knit until 1 stitch before the stitch marker, <\/span>increase 1,<\/span> pass the stitch marker, <\/span>increase 1<\/span>, knit until 1 stitch before the stitch marker of the start of round, <\/span>increase 1<\/span>. <\/span>8 stitches increased in all
<\/span>round 23: <\/b>knit<\/span> all
<\/span>round 24: <\/b>as round 22<\/span> (8 stitches increased)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

In round 25 2 stitch markers will be placed to mark off the central motif: <\/b>w<\/span>ithin these stitch markers the CHART<\/b> is to be followed (from right to left and from the bottom to the top).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

It\u2019s best to choose a different colour of stitch markers to the ones for the increases as to not get them mixed up.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

Then go on to place the stitch markers like this: <\/span><\/strong>knit 8, pass stitch marker, knit 1, <\/span>place the stitch marker for the central motif, follow the CHART for 23 stitches, <\/b>place the second stitch marker for the central motif<\/span>, knit 1, pass stitch marker, knit 8, pass stitch marker, knit 23.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

64 stitches on the needles.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

Round 26<\/span><\/strong>: <\/span>increase 1<\/span>, knit until 1 stitch before the stitch marker<\/span>, <\/b>increase 1<\/span>, pass stitch marker, <\/span>increase 1<\/span>, knit until the stitch marker of the central motif, follow the<\/b> <\/span>CHART for 23 stitches<\/span><\/strong>, pass the stitch marker for the central motif, knit until 1 stitch before the stitch marker, <\/span>increase 1,<\/span> pass stitch marker, <\/span>increase 1<\/span>, knit until 1 stitch before the stitch marker, <\/span>increase 1<\/span>, pass the stitch marker, <\/span>increase 1<\/span>, knit until 1 stitch before the stitch marker of the start round, <\/b><\/span>increase 1. 8 increased stitches in all
<\/span>round 27<\/b><\/span>: knit all stitches apart from the <\/span>23 stitches<\/span><\/strong> marked off by the two stitch markers of the central motif \/ <\/span>CHART.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/span>


Repeat rounds 26 and 27 another 20 <\/span>[S] 21 [M] 23 [L]<\/span> times, <\/span>232 <\/span>[S] 240 [M] 256 [L]<\/span> <\/span>stitches in total on the needles.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

In the next round leave the sleeves hanging like this: <\/b>l<\/span>eave <\/span>50 <\/span>[S] 52 [M] 56 [L]<\/span> <\/span>stitches<\/span> hanging (first sleeve) <\/span>knit 22 <\/span>[S] 23 [M] 25 [L]<\/span>, follow the CHART<\/b> <\/span>for 22<\/span> <\/span>[S] 23 [M] 23 [L]<\/span> stitches, knit 23 <\/span>[S] 23 [M] 25 [L]<\/span>, leave the next <\/span>50 <\/span>[S] 52 [M] 56 [L]<\/span> stitches<\/span> hanging (second sleeve) <\/span>and knit 65 <\/span>[S] 67 [M] 71 [L]<\/span>.
<\/span>Note:<\/span><\/strong> take away the three stitch markers for the increases, keeping only the one for the start of the round and the two for the central motif-<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

Now start working on the body of the sweater: <\/b>on the needles there are <\/span>132 <\/span>[S] 136 [M] 144 [L]<\/span> stitches in total.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

For convenience the rounds will start from number 1
<\/span>Round 1<\/span><\/strong>: knit all the stitches apart from the <\/span>23 <\/span><\/strong>marked off by the two stitch markers for the central motif \/ CHART<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>

Repeat round 1 for another 32 <\/span>[S, M] 38 [L]<\/span> rounds.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

Next round:<\/span><\/strong> take away the central stitch markers. The CHART<\/b> won’t be followed anymore.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span>

Knit and arrange the<\/span> 8 decreases<\/span><\/strong> evenly.
<\/span>Rib stitch 1\/1 the last 11 rounds.
<\/span>Bind off loosely.<\/span><\/p>

How to make the sleeves of the sweater with cable bobble stitch (x2)<\/h2>\n

All sizes [S] [M] [L].<\/span><\/u><\/strong>
<\/p>

Pick up on the needles the <\/span>50 <\/span>[S] 52 [M] 56 [L] <\/span>stitches<\/span> left hanging previously and start working the sleeves like so: k<\/span>nit the first 3 rounds.
<\/span>Round 4:<\/span><\/strong> knit all the stitches and decrease 4 stitches.<\/span><\/p>

Rounds 5 to 7<\/span><\/strong>: knit another 3 rounds
<\/span>round 8<\/b><\/span>: knit all the stitches and decrease 2 stitches.
<\/span>Repeat rows 5 to 8 another 3 times.
<\/span>Next round<\/span><\/strong>: knit all the stitches and <\/span>decrease 8 stitches evenly.<\/span><\/p>

There will be 30 <\/span>[S] 32 [M] 36 [L] <\/span>stitches on the needles.
<\/span>Rib stitch 1\/1 the last 25 rounds.
<\/span>Bind off loosely.<\/span><\/p>

Repeat everything for the other sleeve.<\/span><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Sew up under the sleeves<\/span><\/strong>, weave in all the loose threads, wash and block the garment.<\/span><\/p>

We loved this pattern<\/span><\/strong> so much that we just had to do it again in three different colours: <\/span>Twilight<\/span><\/strong>, <\/span>Flamingo<\/span><\/strong> and <\/span>Marshmallow<\/span><\/strong>.
