Today we\u2019ve got the diagonal basketweave stitch for you. A stitch which can be classed as a real \u201cgolden oldie\u201d but one that certainly doesn\u2019t lack relevance today.<\/span><\/p>

By the way, we\u2019ve used our <\/span>Cyrcus<\/span><\/strong> to do it, which at first glance this yarn seems the same old carded nubby (well, actually it is!) but the mix of shades and its particular structure that makes it puff up while it\u2019s been worked, give it that extra something. The outcome? Total contemporaneity.<\/span><\/p>


<\/p>

How to knit the diagonal basketweave stitch<\/h2>

MATERIALS
<\/span><\/strong>Cyrcus yarn<\/b><\/span><\/a> col. Mist <\/span>100 g \/ 3.5 oz
<\/span>Knitting needle<\/span> n\u00b0 8 EU \/ 11 US<\/span><\/p>

DIFFICULTY LEVEL
<\/b><\/span>Intermediate<\/span>
<\/p>

METHOD<\/b>
<\/b><\/span>This stitch is done on a multiple of 6 stitches and is made up of 3 parts: A, B and C.<\/span><\/p>

\n
<\/p>

Diagonal basketweave stitch Part A (wrong side)<\/h3>

Base triangle:<\/span><\/strong> *purl 1 row, turn, knit 1 row, turn, purl 1 row, purl 2 together (purl 1 row and without letting the stitch slip off the left needle, purl 1 picking up the thread from the stitch from the previous row), turn, knit 2, turn, purl 1, purl 2 togther, turn, knit 3, turn, purl 2, purl 2 together, turn, knit 4, turn, purl 3, purl 2 together , turn, knit 5, turn, purl 4, purl 2 together, turn, knit 4, turn, purl 3, purl 2 together, turn, knit 5, turn, purl 4, purl 2 together, turn, knit 6, turn, purl 6*, leave the triangle hanging on the right needle. Without breaking the thread repeat from * to * until you get the desired length.<\/span><\/p>

Diagonal basketweave part B (right side)<\/h3>

First end triangle:<\/span><\/strong> increase 1 in the first stitch, slip this stitch on the right needle without working it, knit 1 row, pass the slipped stitch, turn, purl 2, turn, increase 1, knit 1, pass 1, turn, purl 3, turn, increase 1, knit 2, pass 1, turn, purl 4, increase 1, knit 3, pass 1, turn, purl 4, turn, increase 1, knit 4, pass 1, turn, purl 5, turn, increase 1, knit 5, pass 1, turn, purl 6, turn, knit 6. Leave these 6 stitches hanging.
<\/span>Rectangle<\/b>:<\/span> pick the 6 stitches up on the left side of the triangle, turn, *purl 6, turn, knit 5, pass the 6<\/span>th<\/span> stitch on the 1<\/span>st<\/span> stitch of the next triangle, turn*, repeat from * to * until you\u2019ve done all the stitches of the triangle.
<\/span>Make as many rectangles as you need in the same way (keeping the stitches on hold on the right needle without breaking the thread). When all the triangles have been done, before turning it over, pick up the 6 knit stitches on the left side of last triangle and turn it over.<\/span><\/p>

Diagonal basketweave stitch part C (wrong side)<\/h3>

First end triangle:<\/span><\/strong> purl 2 together, purl 4, turn, knit 5, turn, purl 2 together, purl 3, turn, knit 4, turn, purl 2 together, purl 2, turn, knit 3, turn, purl 2 together, purl 1, turn, knit 2, turn, purl 2 together, turn, knit 1. Go ahead and pick up and purl 5 on the inner of the triangle and turn.
<\/span>Rectangle:<\/span><\/strong> *knit 6, turn, purl 5, work the 6<\/span>th<\/span><\/sup> stitch and the 1<\/span>st<\/span><\/sup> stitch of the next rectangle together and turn*, repeat from * to * until the rectangle has no more stitches. Make the desired number of rectangles in the same way.<\/span><\/p>

Always repeat parts B and C.<\/span><\/p>

End the work with part C by knitting a series of closing triangles, carry out the first C end triangle, *pick up and purl 4, purl 1 together with the 1<\/span>st<\/span><\/sup> stitch of the next rectangle, turn and go ahead as so: knit 6, turn, purl 2 together, purl 3, work the 6<\/span>th<\/span><\/sup> and the 1<\/span>st<\/span><\/sup> stitch of the next rectangle together, turn, knit 5, turn, purl 2 together, purl 2, work the 5th and the 1st stitch of the next rectangle together, turn, knit 4, purl 2 together, purl 1, work the 4<\/span>th<\/span><\/sup> and the 1<\/span>st<\/span><\/sup> stitch of the next rectangle together, turn, knit 3, turn, purl 2 together, work the 3<\/span>rd<\/span><\/sup> and 1<\/span>st<\/span><\/sup> stitch of the next rectangle together, turn, knit 2, turn, purl 3 together*, repeat from * to * until the end of the motif.<\/span><\/p>

Despite being classic, the diagonal basketweave stitch is by no means quick to do, however it\u2019s definitely worth it, don\u2019t you agree?<\/span>
