By joining the pure cotton yarn, Lincoln, and the soft pure silk ribbons the Wavy Striped top down sweater came about! A perfect fusion that creates a nice shiny look and a soft handle all over the garment. The sweater has been designed and made by Knitting For Breakfast who chose to come up with a sweater with a baggy yet snazzy fit.<\/span><\/p>

<\/span><\/p>

The shape of the Wavy Striped top down sweater is minimal and loose fitting. It feels really nice on your skin, as it\u2019s airy, and when you\u2019re wearing it you get that incredible fresh feeling. The colours that have been chosen bring to mind the ice of the glaciers and the deep blue waters of the sea. There\u2019s a clear to see blue stripe that really stands out against the milk white background as it contrasts with it. The outcome is a melange textured sweater that reminds us of a wave ripple, which is exactly why it\u2019s called the Wavy Striped Sweater.<\/span><\/p>

How to make a knitted Wavy Striped top down Sweater with silk ribbons<\/h2>

MATERIALS<\/b><\/span>
Lincoln yarn<\/span><\/strong><\/a> Milk colour (size S: 200 g<\/span> <\/span>\/ 7 oz<\/span>, size M and L: 300 g<\/span> <\/span>\/ 10.6 oz<\/span>)
<\/span>Silk Pongee ribbons<\/span><\/strong><\/a> 1cm wide colour. Tuareg (size S and M: 100 m, size L: 120 m)
<\/span>Circular needles<\/span><\/strong><\/a> no. 6 and no. 5
<\/span>60 cm and 100 cm <\/span>cables
<\/span>Stitch markers<\/span><\/p>

KNIT-CROCHET STITCHES USED <\/b><\/span>
Knit and purl<\/span>
Rib stitch 1×1= knit 1 and purl 1 to the end of the round for all rounds Increase: the kfb is recommended<\/span>
Yarn over<\/span>
<\/p>

SIZE
<\/b><\/span>This type of sweater is worked in the round using circular needles from the top to the bottom. As it\u2019s worked as just one piece it has the huge <\/span>advantage of being seamless<\/span><\/strong>. The stitches are gradually increased, from the neck until the sleeves, then the stitches are placed on hold on a thread to be picked up later.<\/span><\/p>

These instructions are for a size S (M, L).<\/span><\/p>

Measurements of the completed garment, size M:<\/span><\/strong>
Bust 100 cm<\/span>
Total height 57 cm<\/span>
Height from the underarm 41 cm<\/span>
Neck opening 26 cm<\/span>
Sleeve width at the top 16 cm<\/span>
Sleeve length from underarm 20 cm<\/span><\/p>

METHOD
<\/span><\/b>With the <\/span>no.6 needles<\/span><\/strong>\nand the yarn cast on <\/span>80 stitches<\/span><\/strong>, place <\/span>the stitch marker at the start\nof the round <\/span><\/strong>and bind off in the round.<\/span><\/p>

Round 1<\/span><\/strong>: knit all stitches.<\/span><\/p>

Round 2<\/span><\/strong>: purl all stitches.<\/span><\/p>

Round 3, 4 and 5<\/span><\/strong>: knit all stitches.<\/span><\/p>

In round 6 place the stitch markers like so<\/span><\/strong>: stitch marker of the start of round, knit 12, <\/span>place stitch marker<\/span><\/strong>, knit 28, <\/span>place stitch marker<\/span><\/strong>, knit 12, <\/span>place stitch marker<\/span><\/strong>, knit 28.<\/span><\/p>

At this point, the increases are carried out to shape the sleeves, the back and the front of the sweater. The increases are always done before and after each stitch marker.<\/span><\/p>

Round 7<\/span><\/strong>: increase 1, knit until 1 stitch before the stitch marker, increase 1, (skip the stitch marker) increase 1, knit until 1 stitch before the stitch marker, increase 1 (skip the stitch marker) increase 1, knit until 1 stitch before the stitch marker, increase 1 (skip the stitch marker) increase 1, knit until 1 stitch before the stitch marker, increase 1. (8 increased stitches in total).<\/span><\/p>

Round 8:<\/span><\/strong> knit all stitches.<\/span><\/p>

Repeat rounds 7 and 8 another 20 (22, 24) times.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

Now on the needles there’ll be: 248 (264, 280).<\/span><\/p>


<\/span><\/p>

Place the sleeves stitches on hold like so:<\/b><\/span><\/p>

Put 54 (58, 62) stitches (first sleeve) on hold onto a thread, <\/span>KNIT the yarn together with the silk ribbon for 70 (74, 78) stitches.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

Put onto a thread the following 54 (58, 62) stitches (second sleeve) <\/span>KNIT the yarn together with the silk ribbon another 70 (74, 78) stitches.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

Start working on the body<\/h3>

On the needles there\u2019ll be 140 (148, 156)<\/span><\/strong> stitches, to make it easier we\u2019ll start the count from number 1.<\/span><\/p>

Carry on working the body of the sweater using the yarn together with the silk ribbon.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

From rounds 1 to 8<\/span><\/strong>: knit all stitches<\/span><\/p>

Now use the silk ribbon ONLY:<\/span><\/strong>
round 9<\/span><\/strong>: knit 1 and 2 yarn overs. Repeat to the end of the round.<\/span><\/p>

Use the yarn and the silk ribbon together:<\/span><\/strong>
round 10:<\/span><\/strong> knit 1 and drop the yarn overs from the previous round. Repeat to the end of the round.<\/span><\/p>

Rounds 11 and 12<\/span><\/strong>: <\/span>knit <\/span><\/strong>all stitches.<\/span><\/p>

Now use the silk ribbon ONLY<\/span><\/strong>:<\/span>
round 13<\/span><\/strong>: knit 1 and yarn over 2. Repeat to the end of the round.<\/span><\/p>

Use the yarn and the silk ribbon<\/span><\/strong>:<\/span>
round 14<\/span><\/strong>: knit 1 and drop the yarn overs from the previous round. Repeat to the end of the round.<\/span><\/p>

From<\/span><\/strong> <\/span>rounds 15 to 21<\/span><\/strong>: <\/span>knit<\/span><\/strong> all stitches.<\/span><\/p>

Use the yarn only<\/span><\/strong>:<\/span>
knit<\/span><\/strong> all the stitches for 36 (40, 40) rounds.<\/span><\/p>

Switch to no.5 needles<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

Finish off by working the rib stitch 1\/1 for <\/span>10 rounds<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

Bind off loosely.<\/span><\/p>

How to make the sleeves<\/h3>

Pick up <\/span>stitches 54 (58, 62)<\/span><\/strong> previously on hold and start working the sleeves as follows:<\/span>
from rounds 1 to 32<\/span><\/strong>: knit all stitches.<\/span><\/p>

Switch to no. 5 needles<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

Rib stitch 1\/1 for <\/span>5 rounds<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

Bind off loosely.<\/span><\/p>


<\/span><\/p>

<\/span>Repeat everything for the other sleeve.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

Insert all the threads, wash the sweater by hand with a mild detergent and then lay it out flat. This will block the garment.<\/span><\/p>

<\/span><<\/p>

We\u2019ve got a pattern for another <\/span>top down sweater<\/span><\/strong><\/a> made with Lincoln too, but this one’s a boat neck sweater with eyelets. If I were you, I\u2019d definitely check it out!<\/span><\/p>
