Did you know that blue and white <\/span>horizontally <\/span>striped jumpers originally came from the seafaring world? I<\/span>n fact, t<\/span>he stripes were very important in the case of a man overboard as they allowed the other sailors to quickly identify the sailor in trouble amongst all waves. Then, the timeless and incomparable Coco Chanel brought the striped shirt to the catwalks thus immortalising it as a fashion icon.<\/span><\/p>

This little prelude serves to introduce you to today’s pattern; a jumper with wide stripes, of which there are 3 in total. The jumper is made with our precious Fluffy in mohair and silk. The colors are pastel and have been chosen to create a slightly contrasted effect. However, you needn’t follow the color scheme used in this tutorial. On the shop you can find the shades you prefer to create the jumper you want.<\/span><\/p>

Tutorial: how to knit a striped jumper<\/h2>

How to knit the body of the striped jumper<\/h3>

With needles n\u00b0 4 EU \/ 6 US and color l<\/span>ily of the valley, <\/span>cast on 196 stitches, insert the stitch marker at the beginning of the round and join into a ring.<\/span><\/p>

From round 1 to round 12<\/b>: knit rib 1\/1.<\/span><\/p>

Change to needle n\u00b0 4.5 EU \/ 7 US.<\/span><\/p>

Knit all rounds in stockinette stitch for 14 cm \/ 5.5″.<\/span><\/p>

Change to the Hush color and knit all rounds in stockinette stitch for 16 cm \/ 6.3″.<\/span><\/p>

Then c<\/span>hange t<\/span>o the Flamingo color and knit 1.<\/span>
<\/p>

How to knit the front of the striped jumper<\/h3>

Now the project is divided into 2 parts, so from now on <\/span>only <\/span>knit <\/span>the first half of the stitches <\/span>back and forth, that is, <\/span>98 stitches.<\/span><\/p>

Using <\/span>the Flamingo color <\/span>knit:<\/span><\/p>

round 1 <\/b>(right side)<\/span><\/b>: knit all the stitches, turn the piece<\/span>
round <\/b>2 (wrong side)<\/span><\/b>: purl all stitches, turn the <\/span>project<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

Repeat rounds 1 and 2 another 17 times, for a total of 36 rounds.<\/span>

How to knit the neck of the jumper<\/h3>

Now we knit <\/span>only the first 36 stitches to form the neckline (first shoulder), leaving all the other stitches <\/span>hanging <\/span>on the needles, both the central ones of the neck (26 stitches), and those of the other shoulder that will be knitted later.<\/span><\/p>

FIRST SHOULDER<\/span><\/b>
round <\/b>1 (RS)<\/b>: knit 36, turn the piece
<\/span>round <\/b>2 (WS)<\/b>: <\/span>close 2 stitches, purl until the end of the row; turn the <\/span>project
<\/span>round <\/b>3 (RS)<\/b>: <\/span>knit until the end of the row, turn the <\/span>project
<\/span>round <\/b>4 (WS)<\/b>: <\/span>bind off 1 stitch<\/span>, <\/span>purl until the end of the row; turn the <\/span>project

Knit back and forth over the stitches left <\/span>hanging <\/span>earlier.<\/span>
<\/p>

Knit Using the Flamingo:<\/span><\/p>

round <\/b>1 (<\/b><\/span>RS<\/b>)<\/b>: knit all the stitches, turn the project
<\/span>round <\/b>2 (<\/b><\/span>WS<\/b>)<\/b>: purl all stitches, turn the <\/span>project<\/span><\/p>

Repeat rounds 1 and 2 another 24 times, for a total of 48 rounds.<\/span><\/p>

Leave the stitches <\/span>hanging<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

At this point you must sew the shoulders, execute this by using an invisible seam, otherwise knit it. You have to join the 31 stitches left open for each shoulder by joining the front with the back.<\/span><\/p>

However<\/span>, leave the central stitches of both the front and the back <\/span>hanging <\/span>for the neck.<\/span><\/p>

How to knit the sleeves of the striped jumper<\/h3>

Using <\/span>needles n\u00b0 <\/span>4.5 EU \/ 7 US pick up 80 stitches along the armhole, insert the stitch marker at the start of the round in the underarm and resume <\/span>knitting <\/span>round.<\/span><\/p>

Using the Flamingo color knit stockinette stitch for 9 cm \/ 3.5″.<\/span><\/p>

Change <\/span>color <\/span>to Hush and knit stockinette stitch for 19 cm \/ 7.5″.<\/span>
<\/p>

Lastly, change to Lily of the Valley and knit stockinette stitch for 15 cm \/ 5.9″.<\/span>
<\/p>

Round of decreases<\/b>: *knit 2 together*, repeat from * to * for a total of 40 stitches.<\/span>
<\/p>

Change to needles n\u00b0 4 EU \/ 7 US to knit the cuff.<\/span>
<\/p>

From round 1 to round 8<\/b>: <\/span>*knit 1, purl 1*, repeat from * to * to the end of the round.<\/span><\/p>

Bind off all the stitches softly.<\/span><\/p>

Repeat for the second sleeve.<\/span><\/p>

How to finish the neck of the striped jumper<\/h3>

On needles n\u00b0 4.5 EU \/ 7 US p<\/span>ut the 36 stitches of the back left <\/span>previously <\/span>hanging, pick up 15 stitches along the left neckline. Now put the 26 stitches left hanging on the front back on the needles and pick up 15 stitches along the right neckline.<\/span><\/p>

Insert the stitch marker and knit round using Flamingo, you will have 92 stitches on the needles.<\/span><\/p>

From round 1 to round 9<\/b>: <\/span>*knit 1, purl 1*, repeat from * to * to the end of the round.<\/span><\/p>

Bind off all stitches.<\/span><\/p>

Insert all threads.<\/span><\/p>

Wash to fix the garment.<\/span><\/p>
