We are fans of the knitted bonsai stitch because it has a very mild texture. In fact, as the title suggests, there are little patterns that resemble stylised, miniature trees, just like little bonsais.<\/span><\/p>

Did you know that the art of bonsai was born in China probably as early on as 500 BC and that its name more or less means “small tree in a pot”?<\/span><\/p>

The yarn that has been chosen for the knitted bonsai stitch is Piuma in the <\/span>color, J<\/span>ungle. On the store, however, you can find many other shades to choose from.<\/span><\/p>

Tutorial: how to knit the bonsai stitch<\/h2>

Knitting needle n\u00b0 8 EU \/ 11 US<\/span><\/p>

METHOD<\/span><\/b><\/p>

We work off several of foundation stitches in multiples of 14 + 6.<\/span><\/p>

Stockinette stitches on the sides of the pattern are not represented on the diagram and are not indicated in the explanation.<\/span>
<\/p>

Row 1<\/b>: knit all stitches<\/span>
row 2 <\/b><\/span>and <\/b>all even rows<\/b>: purl <\/span>all stitches<\/span>
row <\/b>3 and 7<\/b>: *knit 1, <\/span>2 cross stitches on the right<\/span>, <\/span>2 cross stitches on the left<\/span>, knit 9*, always repeat from * to * and finish with knit 1, <\/span>2 cross stitches on the right<\/span>, <\/span>2 cross stitches on the left<\/span>, <\/span>knit 1<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

To execute<\/b> 2 cross stitches on the right<\/b>: keep 1 open stitch behind, knit 1 and then knit the open stitch.<\/span><\/p>

To execute<\/b> <\/b>2 cross stitches on the left<\/b><\/span>: keep 1 open stitch on the front, purl 1 and then knit the open stitch.<\/span>
<\/p>

Row <\/b>5<\/b>: *knit <\/span>2 cross stitches on the right<\/span>, knit 2, <\/span>2 cross stitches on the left<\/span>, <\/span>knit 8<\/span>*, <\/span>finish with<\/span> <\/span>2 cross stitches on the right<\/span>, <\/span>knit 2<\/span>, <\/span>2 cross stitches on the left<\/span>
row <\/b>9<\/b>: *knit 2<\/span>, 1 stitch passed over with 1 increase, knit 10*, <\/span>always repeat from * to * and finish with<\/span> <\/span>knit 2,<\/span> <\/span>1 <\/span>stitch passed over<\/span> with and infinite increase, <\/span>knit 2<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

To execute 1 <\/b><\/span>stitch passed over<\/b><\/span> with an increase<\/b>: pass 1 stitch on the right needle without knitting it, taking it right and with the yarn behind, knit 1 and, without letting the stitch fall off the left needle, cross the past stitch; then knit 1 cross into the yarn left over on the left needle.<\/span>

Repeat from * to * for the entire row and finish with the stitches that follow the second *. In the even rows, not represented in the diagram, <\/span>purl <\/span>all stitches<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>
