When winter is at our doorstep, the last thing you want is to go back to wearing down jackets or heavy coats, so you dress in layers until your nose feels like it will freeze off? Well then, you’re a part of the club and today you can learn how to knit a turtleneck bib perfect for dressing in layers. It\u2019s even ideal for when bad weather forces us to wear a coat!<\/span><\/p>

It is made with our Marni, a yarn that comes from the combination of our Piuma in extra fine merino wool and a skilful twisting process that gives it a beautiful structure. Very warm and easy to work with, it really shines on simple projects.<\/span><\/p>

Tutorial: how to knit a turtleneck bib<\/h2>

Rib 1\/1<\/span><\/u>:<\/span>
work alternating 1 knit and 1 purl stitch on both the right side and the wrong side of the piece.<\/span>
Straight stockinette stitch<\/span><\/u>:<\/span>
row 1: knit<\/span>
row 2: purl.<\/span>
Repeat rows 1 and 2.<\/span>
Stitch passed over<\/span><\/u>:<\/span>
pass 1 stitch on the right needle without working it, knit the following stitch on the left needle and with the tip of the left needle overlap the passed, or unworked, stitch.<\/span><\/p>

work 2 chains, then insert the hook into the first chain and extract 1 stitch, now throw the thread around the hook and close the 2 stitches, forming the first double chain. The bib is worked flat and is made up of 2 parts, the front and the back. Once the parts have been completed and the appropriate stitching has been carried out, the stitches are picked up to work the neck and side edges.<\/span><\/p>

How to knit the back of the bib<\/h3>

With needles n\u00b0 8 EU \/ 11 US cast on 26 stitches and work 4 rows in 1\/1 rib. Continue in stockinette stitch for 44 rows. Bind off.<\/span><\/p>

How to knit the front of the bib<\/h3>

Row 1<\/span><\/b>: knit the first 6 stitches, bind off the next 14 stitches and knit the last 6 stitches, turn over and continue only on the 6 stitches on this side, leaving the other stitches hanging<\/span>
row 2<\/span><\/b>: purl 6 stitches<\/span>
row 3<\/span><\/b>: decrease 1 stitch by knitting 2 together, knit 4 <\/span>
row 4<\/span><\/b>: purl 5 stitches<\/span>
row 5<\/span><\/b>: decrease 1 stitch by knitting 2 together, knit 3 <\/span>

For the S size bind off a total of 19 stitches for the neckline, equal to 24 cm \/ 9.4″. For size L bind off a total of 21 stitches for the neckline, equal to 26 cm \/ 10.2″.<\/span><\/p>

How to knit the turtleneck of the bib<\/h3>

Sew a shoulder. With needles n\u00b0 8 EU \/ 11 US on the right side, pick up and knit 44 stitches along the neckline of the back and front. Work 14 rows in rib 1\/1, then bind off.<\/span><\/p>

For size S pick up 42 stitches, equal to 52.5 cm \/ 20.7″. For size L pick up 46 stitches, equal to 57.5 cm \/ 22.7″.<\/span><\/p>

How to knit the side edges of the bib<\/h3>

Sew the other shoulder and the neck. For the edge of the right side, on the right side, with needles size 8 EU \/ 11 US pick up and knit 86 stitches along the right edge of the back and front: on the first and last stitch, to round off the edge, pick up 3 stitches; however, on the ends of the row pick up 1 stitch. Now work 1\/1 rib for 5 rows, then bind off. Sew the rounded part at the beginning and end of the edge on the wrong side, overlapping it with the lower edge. Repeat the same process for the left side edge.<\/span><\/p>

How to make the laces to close the sides of the harness<\/h3>

Following the instructions, work 4 double chains, 55 cm \/ 21.6″ long each with hook size 9 EU \/ 13 US. Sew the double chain loops on the wrong side of the 4 sides, along the edge of the border and at 25 cm \/ 10″ from the shoulder seam.<\/span><\/p>
