Today we present you the free pattern for a crop top. Short, youthful, with a splash of triangles on the front and with a subtle cross on the back. You can wear the top in summer, without any jacket. Or in autumn\/winter under a cardigan<\/a><\/b>. Just like the matching one we created and which you can find on our blog.<\/span><\/p>

Our Rain or Shine, in pure merino wool, is a yarn suitable for all seasons. Because its title allows it to be worked with needles of different sizes and therefore obtain heavy or lighter textures.<\/span><\/p>

The colour chosen is natural white. Rain or Shine, however, has a very rich colour palette. Choose your favourite on our online store!<\/span><\/p>

Tutorial: how to knit a crop top<\/h2>

Crochet hook n\u00b0 4 EU \/ G-6 US<\/span>

METHOD<\/span><\/b><\/p>

This crop top is worked flat and is made up of two pieces, the front and the back, sewn together at the end at the sides and completed with straps, fitted afterwards. The procedure is stated for a size M. At the end of each section there are indications for sizes S and L: the quantity of yarn will also vary, take into account approximately 50 g \/ 1.8″ more or less depending on the size you want realize.<\/span><\/p>


<\/span><\/p>

How to knit the back of the crop top<\/h3>

Cast on 66 stitches with needles n\u00b0 4 EU \/ 6 US.<\/span><\/p>

Row 1<\/span><\/b>: Purl 2, repeat (knit 2, purl 2) to the end of the row<\/span>
row 2<\/span><\/b>: knit 2, repeat (purl 2, knit 2) until the end of the row. You have completed 2 rows of 2\/2 rib for the edge<\/span>
row 3<\/span><\/b>: knit 2, repeat (1 yarn over, knit 2, pass the yarn over the two knitted stitches) until the last 2 stitches, knit 2 stitches<\/span>
row 4<\/span><\/b>: purl.<\/span><\/p>

Rows 3 and 4 set the rib stitch pattern with 2 initial and final stockinette stitches. Repeat them another 21 times (you reach row 46). Now work 2 rows in stockinette stitch over all the stitches, then bind off. With crochet hook n\u00b0 4 EU \/ G-6 US knit 1 row in crab stitch on the last row of stockinette stitch. Fasten.<\/span><\/p>

How to adapt the back to sizes S and L<\/h3>

For size S, follow the same procedure as for size M by casting on 58 stitches and working 4 rows less than those indicated: arrive at row 42 with the rib stitch pattern with 2 initial and final stockinette stitches, then work the 2 final rows in stockinette stitch and finishing in crab stitch.<\/span><\/p>

For size L, follow the same procedure as for size M by casting on 72 stitches and working 6 more rows than those indicated: arrive at row 52 with the rib stitch pattern with 2 initial and final stockinette stitches, then work the 2 final rows in stockinette stitch and finishing in crab stitch.<\/span><\/p>

How to knit the front of the crop top<\/h3>

With knitting needles n\u00b0 4 EU \/ 6 US cast on 80 stitches and work 2 rows in 2\/2 rib.<\/span><\/p>

Row 3<\/span><\/b>: knit 2, knit (1 yarn over, knit 2, pass the yarn over over the two knit stitches) 37 times, knit 2<\/span>
row 4<\/span><\/b>: purl.<\/span><\/p>

Rows 3 and 4 set the rib stitch pattern with 2 initial and final stockinette stitches. Repeat 3 more times (you get to row 10). Now scale the stitches gradually until all the stitches on the needle are worked in stockinette stitch.<\/span><\/p>

Row 11<\/span><\/b>: knit 6, knit (1 yarn over, knit 2, pass the yarn over over the two knit stitches) 34 times, knit 6 <\/span>
row 12 and subsequent even rows up to row 46<\/span><\/b>: purl<\/span>
row 13<\/span><\/b>: knit 8, knit (1 yarn over, knit 2, pass the yarn over over the two knit stitches) 32 times, knit 8 <\/span>

row 41<\/span><\/b>:<\/span> knit 38, knit (1 yarn over, knit 2, pass the yarn over over the two knit stitches) 4 times, knit 38 <\/span>
row 43<\/span><\/b>: knit 40, knit (1 yarn over, knit 2, pass the yarn over over the two knit stitches) 2 times, knit 40 <\/span>
row 45<\/span><\/b>: knit 41, 1 yarn over, knit 2, pass the yarn over over the two knit stitches, knit 41 stitches.<\/span><\/p>

Now divide the piece in half and work the two cups separately. Start from the right cup, decreasing on the left and then also on the right, after having closed the stitches for the armhole, reaching the same height as the back.<\/span><\/p>

Row 47<\/span><\/b>: knit until the last 2 stitches, 1 stitch passed over the last 2 stitches<\/span>
row 48<\/span><\/b>: purl<\/span>
row 49<\/span><\/b>: close 3 stitches for the armhole, knit until the last 2 stitches, 1 stitch passing the last 2 stitches<\/span>
row 50<\/span><\/b>: purl<\/span>
row 5<\/span>1<\/span><\/b>: knit 2 stitches together, continue knitting until the last 2 stitches, 1 stitch passed over the last 2 stitches<\/span>
row 52<\/span><\/b>: purl.<\/span><\/p>

Rows 51 and 52 set the decreases for the cup, repeat them 15 more times (you arrive at row 82 with 3 stitches on the needle). Knit the 3 stitches together, then fasten the remaining stitch.<\/span><\/p>

Work the left cup in a mirror way.<\/span><\/p>

How to adapt the front to sizes S and L<\/h3>

For size S, cast on 72 stitches and work 70 rows in total: 44 rows up to the armholes to reach the height of the back and 26 rows for each cup.<\/span><\/p>

Follow the same procedure as for size M up to row 10, then gradually scale the stitches as follows: in row 11 work 4 more stitches in stocking stitch at the sides and 8 stitches. less with rib stitch in the centre, then always work 2 more stitches in stockinette stitch on the sides and 4 fewer stitches with rib stitch in the centre on every odd row up to row 40, then in rows 41 and 42 work with rib stitch only on the 2 central stitches.
<\/span>Divide the work in half and continuing with stockinette stitch on all the stitches, shape the cups and armholes as indicated for size M, decreasing on the sides until you have 3 stitches left on the needle. Knit the 3 stitches together, then fasten the remaining stitch.<\/span><\/p>

For size L, cast on 86 stitches and work 92 rows in total: 54 rows up to the armholes to reach the height of the back and 38 rows for each cup.
Follow the same procedure as for size M up to row 10, then repeat rows 3 and 4 another 2 times arriving at row 14, then begin to gradually scale the stitches as follows: in row 15 work 4 more stitches in stockinette stitch sides and 8 stitches less in rib stitch in the centre, then always work 2 more stitches in stockinette stitch on the sides and 4 stitches. less in rib stitch in the centre of every odd row up to row 52.
Divide the work in half and continuing with stockinette stitch on all the stitches, shape the cups and armholes as indicated for size M, making the decreases on the sides until to remain with 3 stitches on the needle. Knit the 3 stitches together, then fasten the remaining stitch.<\/span><\/p>


<\/span><\/p>

How to make straps and apply finishes<\/h4>

Sew the sides. For the straps, use the crochet hook n\u00b0 4 EU \/ G-6 US to make 2 interwoven chains of the length necessary to cover your measurement from the tip of a cup to the opposite side of the center back. For each braided chain, hook the thread onto the tip of the cup, work 6 chains and hook them again to the tip with 1 slip stitch, forming the first ring. Cut and fasten the thread.
Repeat (hook the thread inside the previous ring, work 6 chains and close the new ring in the same starting point, then cut and fasten the thread) until you reach the necessary length.
Attach the 2 buttons centring them on the wrong side of the back, just under the crab stitch finishing line: adapt the distance between the 2 buttons based on your measurements. Cross the straps at the back and fasten them using the rings as eyelets.<\/span><\/p>
