Loading...Ariel is a yarn with a technical and contemporary identity, built on a base of plant fibers, primarily recycled cotton, supplemented with a synthetic component that enhances stability, strength and uniformity in processing. The result is a balanced material designed to offer stitch precision and reliability over time. The presence of cotton provides breathability, comfort and a natural hand, while the technical fiber helps make the yarn more regular, compact and wear-resistant. Finally, lamé for a glamorous and luminous touch. Ariel is thus placed in a functional and modern range: a yarn designed not for decorative effect, but for textile performance and stability of the end result.
Availability and packaging
Our Ariel is available in 100 g balls, which can be purchased individually or in packs of 10 per color. Each pack has a natural tolerance of ±3%. The different packages are designed both for those who need small quantities and for those who need large quantities and/or want to save.
Composition: 74% cotton, 13% viscose, 13% lurex
Length and weight: approx. 100 yards per 100 g / 109 yards per 3.5 oz
Yarn type: Worsted, Afghan, Aran.
Yarn tension with needles: 14.5 stitches and 19 knits in a shaved knit 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in.
Yarn tension with crochet: 13 stitches and 16 rows in a low knit 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in.
Raw materials used in DHG's yarns are selected and purchased from areas of the world where each specific fiber expresses the best natural and performance qualities. Depending on the type, the fibers come from vocated and traditionally specialized regions, chosen to ensure high standards of purity, fineness and textile performance. Once selected, the fibers enter a transformation process that combines technical expertise and craftsmanship savoir-faire. In fact, yarns such as Ariel are made through a careful twisting process, largely carried out with a still strongly artisanal approach in the textile district of Prato, a historic international center for fiber processing.
This balance between global sourcing and local processing allows the characteristics of each fiber to be maximized, resulting in yarns that combine quality, identity and manufacturing tradition.
Ariel cotton yarn is worked with needles e crochet hooks medium thickness, but can also be used in weaving.
Whether knitted orcrocheted, it is advisable to choose simple knits (such as shaved and low knit) or at least not complex knits because they would not be highlighted by the variegated surface, which is already impressive in itself.
The yarn can be alternated with others, as similar as possible, for patterned reasons. Try it combined with our Pop or our Sailorman.
With the loom: we worked the yarn with a 30:10 comb-loom (3 threads/cm). Ariel is certainly not a yarn that was born for weaving but we think it is always worth experimenting while being aware of some limitations. It can be used in both warp and weft and where possible combined with other yarns. Caution: during processing, twisted yarn on cotton webbing tends to slip and thicken. It thus creates effects that cannot be repeated or controlled, but we like the aesthetic result to death.
Tips for working and care.
Our colors generally have high light fastness and wash fastness. Exceptions are fluorescent colors, which have low light fastness and may release color in the presence of alkaline or harsh soaps and with prolonged washing. The same applies to dark, bright colors. In all these cases, it is essential to test a small sample before starting the project, especially if these materials are combined with raw or light-colored fibers. In any case, it is always a good idea to dry artifacts away from direct sunlight, preferably in semi-shade.
A practical tip: Buying balls or spools of different baths can cause what is known as the barred effect: subtle variations in shade that seem invisible when comparing balls and spools, but become apparent once worked. Therefore, always be sure to buy some yarn in excess of what is needed for your project. We will be sure to send you spools and balls of the same lot.
