Loading...Hokusai is a contemporary yarn that is the result of a combination of viscose, alpaca and merino wool, a combination designed to achieve lightness, softness and a special surface brightness. The predominant presence of viscose gives the yarn a fluid and slightly silky hand, while alpaca and wool contribute thermal comfort and natural volume.
Hokusai is a soffilo i.e., a special type of yarn made by blowing the fibers inside a very fine knit tubular. This unique construction results in an incredibly soft, light and fluffy yarn. The fibers are trapped gently in the tubular, with the ends protruding slightly, creating an elegant “halo” effect.
Here’s how it works in detail:
– Mesh tubular: at the center of the gusset is a thin mesh tubular, often made of polyamide (nylon), which gives structure and elasticity.
– Fiber filling: fibers-such as wool, alpaca or blends-are blown inside the tubular, distributing themselves evenly.
– Adherence: the fibers stay inside the tubular without needing to be spun, resulting in a light but bulky yarn.
– Appearance and texture: the ends of the fibers remain slightly exposed, giving the yarn its characteristic softness and a delicate “fluff” effect.

Our Hokusai is available in 100 g balls, which can be purchased individually. Each package has a natural tolerance of ±3%.

Hokusai is worked with rather thick needles and crochet hooks.
With needles: beautiful shaved knit and ribbed, plain or raised work.
Withcrochet: the ideal knit is low knit. Perfect is the raised ring fur stitch.
Tips for working and care.
Our colors generally have high light fastness and wash fastness. Exceptions are fluorescent colors, which have low light fastness and may release color in the presence of alkaline or harsh soaps and with prolonged washing. The same applies to dark, bright colors. In all these cases, it is essential to test a small sample before starting the project, especially if these materials are combined with raw or light-colored fibers. In any case, it is always a good idea to dry artifacts away from direct sunlight, preferably in semi-shade.
A practical tip: Buying balls or spools of different baths can cause what is known as the barred effect: subtle variations in shade that seem invisible when comparing balls and spools, but become apparent once worked. Therefore, always be sure to buy some yarn in excess of what is needed for your project. We will be sure to send you spools and balls of the same lot.
