This yarn interprets traditional craftsmanship with a modern look, offering a versatile basis for decorative work, textile accessories and design projects. Like many animal-based yarns in the range, it is suitable for many manual techniques-from knitting to weaving-thanks to its structure designed to ensure workability and aesthetic performance.
Availability and packaging
Our Marni is available in 100 g balls, which can be purchased individually or in packs of 10 per color. Each pack has a natural tolerance of ±3%. The different packages are designed both for those who need small quantities and for those who need large quantities and/or want to save.
Composition: 65% extra fine merino wool, 35% polyamide
Length: approx. 81 yards per 100 g / 88 yards per 3.5 oz
Yarn type: Chunky, Craft, Rug.
Yarn tension with needles: 11 stitches and 14 knit needles in a shaved knit 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in.
Yarn tension with crochet: 9 stitches and 12 rows in a low knit 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in.
The wool comes from selected farms in South America, particularly Argentina, Uruguay and Chile: regions with a long tradition in sheep farming and high quality standards in textile fiber production. From raw fiber to finished yarn, the entire processing then takes place in Italy: a short, controlled supply chain that combines the quality of South American raw material with Tuscan craftsmanship.
Our merino wool is mulesing-free, meaning it comes from farms that do not practice mulesing, a surgical procedure used in some parts of the world to prevent parasitic infestations in sheep. The choice to use wool from supply chains that exclude this practice reflects our commitment to animal welfare and more responsible farm management.
The dyes used for our products meet the requirements of the OEKO-TEX standard, which guarantees the control and limitation of substances potentially harmful to human health and the environment.
Fiber dyeing is carried out in our dyehouse in Italy, in compliance with current European regulations on chemicals and environmental safety, including the REACH Regulation (EC no. 1907/2006), which governs the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals.
Operating within the European Union also entails compliance with additional environmental protection and textile safety regulations, such as the CLP Regulation (EC no. 1272/2008) on the classification, labeling and packaging of substances and mixtures. This regulatory framework ensures that dyeing processes are conducted according to high standards of safety, traceability and environmental responsibility, providing a reliable product for both the end user and the environment.
Marni is worked with thicker needles and crochet hooks. Because it has some elasticity, it does not lose its shape even when worked with thicker needles and crochet hooks. It can also be very interesting for weaving projects.
With needles: it is very beautiful when knitted in shirred and other fabric-inspired work.
Withcrochet: it is perfect for all work because the yarn is very compact and easy to grip.
With the loom: we worked the yarn with comb-loom 20:10 (2 threads/cm). Marni is quite elastic but easy to weave. Due to its special structure even a very simple project turns out to be impressive and very decorative, almost a Chanel tweed style.
Tips for working and care.
Our colors generally have high light fastness and wash fastness. Exceptions are fluorescent colors, which have low light fastness and may release color in the presence of alkaline or harsh soaps and with prolonged washing. The same applies to dark, bright colors. In all these cases, it is essential to test a small sample before starting the project, especially if these materials are combined with raw or light-colored fibers. In any case, it is always a good idea to dry artifacts away from direct sunlight, preferably in semi-shade.
A practical tip: Buying balls or spools of different baths can cause what is known as the barred effect: subtle variations in shade that seem invisible when comparing balls and spools, but become apparent once worked. Therefore, always be sure to buy some yarn in excess of what is needed for your project. We will be sure to send you spools and balls of the same lot.
