Loading...Sailorman is a 100 percent cotton yarn constructed in the form of webbing, a structure that gives the material body, stability and a distinct, contemporary visual presence. The choice of pure cotton ensures a natural, cool and durable hand, while the webbing construction creates a compact and uniform surface that enhances the geometry of the stitch. The webbing construction makes this yarn particularly suitable for projects where the material must support the form: accessories, textile objects and garments with defined structure. Its versatility derives precisely from the balance between softness and texture, typical of cotton yarns worked with a twist and a larger cross section. Availability and packaging
Our Sailorman is available in 100 g balls, which can be purchased individually or in packs of 10 per color. Each pack has a natural tolerance of ±3%. The different packages are designed both for those who need small quantities and for those who need large quantities and/or want to save.

Yarn tension with needles: 17 stitches and 21 knit rows in a low knit 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in.

Raw materials used in DHG's yarns are selected and purchased from areas of the world where each specific fiber expresses the best natural and performance qualities. Depending on the type, the fibers come from vocated and traditionally specialized regions, chosen to ensure high standards of purity, fineness and textile performance. Once selected, the fibers enter a transformation process that combines technical expertise and craftsmanship savoir-faire. In fact, yarns such as Sailorman are made through careful twisting, much of which is carried out with a still highly artisanal approach in the textile district of Prato, a historic international center for fiber processing.
This balance between global sourcing and local processing allows the characteristics of each fiber to be maximized, resulting in yarns that combine quality, identity and manufacturing tradition.
Sailorman is worked with needles and crochet hooks of medium to thick. It can also be woven.
With needles: it is perfect for both shirred knitting and all other knitting, both pierced and raised patterns as long as they do not weigh down the surface.
Withcrochet: with low knitting you get a compact result perfect for making jackets, bags, placemats but you can also work all the other knits to get patterned patterns.
With the loom: we worked the yarn with a 32:10 comb-loom (3.2 threads/cm). Although it is a webbing, it is easily worked, especially when working a plain weave. You just need to have some care: since the yarn tends to spin on its own axis, it is preferable to put it back on bobbins from which to unwind it as you work rather than leave it in a ball.
Tips for working and care.
Our colors generally have high light fastness and wash fastness. Exceptions are fluorescent colors, which have low light fastness and may release color in the presence of alkaline or harsh soaps and with prolonged washing. The same applies to dark, bright colors. In all these cases, it is essential to test a small sample before starting the project, especially if these materials are combined with raw or light-colored fibers. In any case, it is always a good idea to dry artifacts away from direct sunlight, preferably in semi-shade.
A practical tip: Buying balls or spools of different baths can cause what is known as the barred effect: subtle variations in shade that seem invisible when comparing balls and spools, but become apparent once worked. Therefore, always be sure to buy some yarn in excess of what is needed for your project. We will be sure to send you spools and balls of the same lot.
