PIUMA METALLIC – 50 G

Code 9068

Haute couture yarn.

Select a product

The Metallic collection originates from a special textured printing technique that allows brush strokes of color to be applied to the surface of the yarn. The powders used not only create a color effect but also transform the surface of the yarn, giving it a genuine metallic finish. Small details that make this yarn truly haute couture, while preserving the soft, woolly hand that characterizes all the yarns in the PIUMA collection.

Composition: 100% extrafine merino wool
Yarn weight: about 60 meters for 50 g / 66 yards for 1.8 oz

Yarn type: Chunky, Craft, Rug.

Knitting gauge swatch: 14 stitches e 19 rows in stockinette stitch for 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in.
Crochet gauge swatch: 14 stitches e 16 rows in single crochet for 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in.

This soft wool yarn is made with our extra fine merino tops.

With needles: it's perfect for stockinette stitch and all other techniques, both textured and lace. Keep in mind, however, that the yarn, being chunky, requires textured patterns to be distributed evenly across the surface to avoid making it too heavy and creating asymmetries.

With a hook: single crochet ensures a compact result. You can also work all other stitches.

On the loom: we wove this yarn on a rigid heddle loom with a 20:10 reed (2 ends/cm). Recommended only for experienced weavers, as it is very delicate. It weaves well, but care must be taken to keep the reed close and avoid breakage—it does not tolerate tension well. Once woven, it results in a compact and soft fabric. Suitable for interior design projects as well as fashion accessories.

An extra tip: pure wool roving is hardly twisted if at all, therefore after the first few washes it can close up slightly (doesn’t get felted!).

If it’s your first time working with this type of wool yarn, it’s essential to make a small swatch (a few centimeters will suffice) to perform a hand-washing test in cold water or, even better, a dry clean.

A test wash is also absolutely necessary if you plan to work with the Piuma wool yarn using large needles or to create lace or very open stitches, so you can adjust your needles and measurements accordingly.

When buying yarn for a knitting, crochet, or machine project, whether it's a garment or an accessory, it's important to always keep the skein bands, cone, or at least the inner label until the work is finished. This way, you'll have the dye lot and/or batch number handy. These details will be useful if the yarn runs out before completing the project: you'll need to request skeins from the same dye lot or batch from the supplier to avoid color differences. Using yarn from different dye lots in the same project usually causes the so-called "barring effect": subtle shade variations that seem invisible when comparing skeins but become evident once worked.
