Select a product

Sarafina Fur Tops is an exclusive fiber developed to offer extremely realistic and sophisticated rendering in felt and fiber artwork. Made in Italy by DHG for and in collaboration with Sarafina Fiber Art, this blend of fine long-fiber fibers is designed to recreate the effect of natural animal hair with extraordinary fluidity and brilliance. The careful selection of fibers and their special preparation in tops ensure continuity, softness and excellent workability, making this material ideal for projects that require a high level of detail, textural depth and visual impact.

Products in the outlet are offered at a reduced price because they have characteristics that do not fully meet our quality standards. They remain fully workable, however.

Availability and packaging
These tops are available in packages of 100 g, 500 g, 1 kg per color. Each package has a natural tolerance of ±3% and contains wool in continuous tape. The different packages are designed for both those who need small quantities and those who need large quantities and/or want to save money. For non-ECE shipments, the packages are vacuum-packed, reducing volume and lowering shipping costs. Don’t worry: once opened, the wool returns to its original, fluffy volume without any loss of quality.

Blend of animal fibers (including mohair - silk - extra fine merino wool).
Ribbon weight: about 23 g/m - 0.81 oz/yd
Ribbon length: about 4 m - 4 yd per 100 g - 3.5 oz

Sarafina Fiber Art's blends are studied compositions of natural and technical fibers selected to provide specific visual and tactile effects in artwork. Blends can include merino wool of different finenesses, Mulberry silk and Tussah silk, mohair, alpaca, viscose and plant fibers such as cotton, as well as small percentages of technical fibers to modulate luster, texture and strength. This combination allows for extremely versatile materials, capable of varying from soft, silky effects to more textural and dynamic textures designed for fiber art, textile sculpture, and creative felting and spinning techniques.

All fibers in our assortment are selected and sourced from regions of origin that guarantee the highest quality standards for each type of material. As indicated in the individual product sheets, provenance is carefully evaluated according to the specific characteristics of the fiber and the production tradition of the different territories, with the aim of ensuring consistency of quality, reliability and optimal performance at each stage of processing.

The dyes used for our products meet the requirements of the OEKO-TEX standard, which ensures the control and limitation of substances potentially harmful to human health and the environment.

Fiber dyeing is carried out in our dyehouse in Italy, in compliance with current European regulations on chemicals and environmental safety, including the REACH Regulation (EC No. 1907/2006), which governs the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemical substances.
Operating within the European Union also entails compliance with additional provisions on environmental protection and textile product safety, such as the CLP Regulation (EC No. 1272/2008), relating to the classification, labeling and packaging of substances and mixtures. This regulatory framework ensures that dyeing processes are conducted according to high standards of safety, traceability and environmental responsibility, offering a reliable product for both the end user and the environment.

Sarafina FURs are blends designed specifically for creating realistic textures in felt sculptures, applied through techniques such as "fur" or "shingling" on a textured substrate. The fibers can be overlaid and shaded together to create a wide range of color effects and natural hues, ideal for reproducing highly realistic animal surfaces. For small-scale work, FUR can be easily trimmed or cut to optimize material use.

Forwater felting these blends must be combined with wool. During the process the blends behave similarly to silk.
In addition to felting, it is also suitable for spinning and weaving, offering broad and versatile creative possibilities for contemporary fiber art, in keeping with the artistic and experimental approach promoted by Sarafina Fiber Art.

CAUTION: All of our colors generally exhibit high lightfastness and fastness to washing. However, fluorescent colors (80's collection), in addition to having a lower lightfastness, may also suffer significant color loss in the presence of alkaline or particularly aggressive soaps, as well as with prolonged processing or washing. This phenomenon can occur, to varying degrees, even with dark and particularly bright colors. For materials dyed with these shades, we always recommend that a preliminary processing and washing test be carried out on a small sample before making the final design. This precaution is essential, especially when dyed materials are combined with unbleached or light-colored fibers.
Finally, to best preserve the colors, it is recommended that artifacts not be dried in direct sunlight, but in a shady place.
