A love story between wool and silk.

Select a product

The combination of extra-fine merino wool and Tussah silk gives this tops an especially fine quality, combining softness, strength and a natural surface sheen. The merino wool provides elasticity and ease of felting, while the silk helps make the material silkier to the touch and visually refined, adding lightness and a delicate sheen. This composition makes wool/silk tops ideal for projects where elegant surfaces, fine details and superior tactile feel are desired.

Availability and packaging
Our wool/silk tops are available in packages of 50, 100 g, 500 g, 1 kg per color. Each package has a natural tolerance of ±3% and contains continuous ribbon fiber. The different packages are designed for both those who need small quantities and those who need large quantities and/or want to save money. For non-ECE shipments, the packages are vacuum-packed, reducing volume and lowering shipping costs. Don’t worry: once opened, the fiber returns to its original, fluffy volume without any loss of quality.

Tops (worsted ribbon) of extra fine merino wool (about 19 microns) and tussah silk.
Composition: 70% wool, 30% tussah silk
Ribbon weight: about 23 g/m - 0.81 oz/yd
Ribbon length: about 4 m - 4 yd per 100 g - 3.5 oz

Merino wool is a natural fiber composed of keratin, an elastic and tough protein that gives the material softness, resilience, and excellent thermoregulatory and moisture-absorbing properties. The fineness of the fiber, measured in microns, directly influences the quality and feel: thinner wools are softer and allow for more precise and uniform processing. When combined with Tussah silk, the fiber acquires additional lightness, brightness and a silkier hand, while maintaining the plushness and strength properties of wool. Both materials are of natural origin, renewable and biodegradable, making this composition a quality choice for projects that require technical performance and aesthetic elegance.

Our extra fine merino wool tops come from selected South American farms particularly from countries such as Argentina, Uruguay and Chile, areas with a long tradition of sheep farming and high quality standards in textile fiber production. In these regions, the practice of mulesing is not widespread and, in fact, merino wool is naturally mulesing-free. This means that animals are raised according to methods that do not involve this intervention, thanks in part to local climatic and environmental conditions that reduce the risk of parasitic infestations responsible for its introduction in other areas of the world.

Tussah silk is mainly produced in Asia, with a historical and established presence mainly in China and India, countries that represent the main centers of breeding and processing of this type of silk. Its production is closely linked to rural and forest regions, where silkworm breeding takes place in natural environments and follows traditional practices handed down over time. Even today, these areas constitute the heart of global Tussah silk production, helping to keep alive a silk industry rooted in Asian textile culture.

Our merino wool is mulesing-free, meaning it comes from farms that do not practice mulesing, a surgical procedure used in some parts of the world to prevent parasitic infestations in sheep. The choice to use wool from supply chains that exclude this practice reflects our commitment to animal welfare and more responsible farm management.

The dyes used for our products meet the requirements of the OEKO-TEX standard, which guarantees the control and limitation of substances potentially harmful to human health and the environment.
Fiber dyeing is carried out in our dyehouse in Italy, in compliance with current European regulations on chemicals and environmental safety, including the REACH Regulation (EC No. 1907/2006), which governs the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemical substances.
Operating within the European Union also entails compliance with additional provisions on environmental protection and textile product safety, such as the CLP Regulation (EC No. 1272/2008), relating to the classification, labeling and packaging of substances and mixtures. This regulatory framework ensures that dyeing processes are conducted according to high standards of safety, traceability and environmental responsibility, offering a reliable product for both the end user and the environment.

Our tussah silk tops are perfect for l´needle felting, forwater felting, for spinning, the hand weaving.

Since colors may vary depending on your monitor or device settings, we recommend purchasing our Color Card to check the shades in person before placing your final order. Want to check the quality of the material? Choose our Sample Box.

CAUTION: All of our colors generally exhibit high lightfastness and wash fastness. However, fluorescent colors (80's collection), in addition to having a lower lightfastness, may also suffer significant color loss in the presence of alkaline or particularly aggressive soaps, as well as with prolonged processing or washing. This phenomenon can occur, to varying degrees, even with dark and particularly bright colors. For materials dyed with these shades, we always recommend that a preliminary processing and washing test be carried out on a small sample before making the final design. This precaution is essential, especially when dyed materials are combined with unbleached or light-colored fibers.
Finally, to best preserve the colors, it is recommended that artifacts not be dried in direct sunlight, but in a shady place.
