Loading...Yak Tops represents a rare and valuable fiber obtained from the very fine undercoat of the yak, selected during natural moulting in the regions of Central Asia. The tops processing, with combed and perfectly aligned fibers, enhances the natural softness and fluffy texture of this fiber, making it ideal for spinning, weaving and fiber art techniques that require warmth, lightness and a distinctive textural character.
Availability and packaging
Our yak tops are available in packages of 100 g, 500 g, 1 kg per color. Each package has a natural tolerance of ±3% and contains yak in continuous tape. The different packages are designed for both those who need small quantities and those who need large quantities and/or want to save money. For non-ECE shipments, the packages are vacuum-packed, reducing volume and lowering shipping costs. Don’t worry: once opened, the fiber returns to its original, fluffy volume without any loss of quality.

The yak is a large bovid native to the mountainous regions of Central Asia. Adapted to live at extreme altitudes and in harsh climatic conditions, it develops a dense fleece composed of a long outer coat and a very fine, insulating undercoat, from which the valuable textile fiber is made. Yak fiber is precisely distinguished by a fineness generally between about 16 and 20 microns in its most valuable component, with a soft, little wavy texture. The fibers have a slight crimp and good natural cohesion, which contributes to elasticity and volume. Lanolin-free, the fiber is light, soft, and highly insulating, with an excellent ability to retain heat while maintaining breathability and comfort.
Yak fiber comes mainly from the regions ofCentral Asia, particularly Mongolia, Tibet and some areas of northern China, where yaks live in extreme climatic conditions between high plateaus and mountainous areas. The undercoat is harvested during the spring moult by combing, according to traditional practices still common in local nomadic communities. These areas represent the main centers of fiber production worldwide.
