Do you become excited when you see a vast field of ripe wheat; A sea of golden wheat ears rising and falling under the hot sun? If so, then you’re going to adore today’s stitch: the field of wheat stitch. The stitch is partially openwork and can be used for both a sweater or for creating an insert.

The yarn selected for this project is Cleopatra in linen and cotton, in the colour Citron. for us this is the perfect combination.

Tutorial: how to crochet the field of wheat stitch

METHOD

We work off a number of base stitches in multiples of 12 + 7.

Row 1 (on the wrong side): Chain 3, skip 4 chains starting from the hook, 1 double crochet in each following chain
row 2: chain 4 (1 initial double crochet + 1 arch), skip 1 stitch, +1 double crochet on the following stitch, chain 1, skip 1 stitch +, repeat from + to + once more, 1 double crochet on the following stitch, skip 2 stitches, on the following stitch work: 1 nut stitch (4 double crochet not closed and then closed together), chain 3 and 1 nut; skip 2 stitches * work + a + 3 times, 1 double crochet on the following stitch, skip 2 stitches, on the following stitch work : 1 nut stitch, 3 chains and 1 nut stitch; skip 2 stitches *, always repeat from * to * and finish by working from + to + 3 times, 1 double crochet on the starting point of the previous row
from row 3 to row 6: chain 4, skip the arch, +1 double crochet on the following stitch, chain 1, skip the arch+, repeat from + to + twice, 1 double crochet on the following stitch, * in the arch of the 3 chains work: 1 nut, 3 chains and 1 nut; skip the following nut, work from + to + 3 times, 1 double crochet on the following stitch *, in the last arch of the 3 chains work: 1 nut, chain 3 and 1 nut; skip the following nut, work from + to + 3 times, 1 double crochet on the starting point of the previous round
row 7: chain 3, +1 double crochet in the arch of 1 chain, 1 double crochet on the following double crochet +, repeat from + to + 3 times, * 1 double crochet on the following nut, 3 double crochets in the arch, 1 double crochet on the following nut, 1 double crochet on the following double crochet, work from + to + 3 times *, finish with 1 double crochet on the following nut, 3 double crochets in the arch, 1 double crochet on the nut, 1 double crochet on the following double crochet, work + to + 3 times
row 8: chain 4, skip 1 stitch, +1 double crochet on the following stitch, 1 chain, skip 1 stitch +, repeat from + to + 5 times, * 1 double crochet on the following stitch, skip 2 stitches, on the following stitch work: 1 nut, 3 chains and 1 nut; skip 2 stitches, work + to + 3 times *, finish by working + to + 3 times, 1 double crochet on the starting point of the previous round

row 14: repeat from row 2.

Start with the part before the first *, repeat from * to * for the entire line and finish with the part after the second*.
