Today, we’re going to learn how to do the Satin stitch, a traditional and timeless stitch in its simplest form. The stitches in today’s case, which are crocheted, are so close to each other giving the final structure a solid texture. This type of knitting is suitable for any type of project, we find it particularly suitable for projects that need a bit of stiffness like a purse, pot holders or perhaps even a patchwork summer quilt.

For the Satin stitch we’ve chosen a pure cotton summer yarn. Cool, shiny and super easy to work with, Lincoln! In the collection there are 10 colours which make up a minimal yet complete colour palette. We’ve made our wool cape with the colour Moss.

How to crochet the Satin stitch

MATERIALS
Lincoln yarn col. Muss 100 g / 3.5 oz
Crochet hook n° 9 EU / 13/M US

METHOD 

Foundation round
Going forth round: skip the last chain done, * insert the hook into the next chain, yarn over and come out of the chain leaving the loop on the hook *, repeat from * to *, to the end of the round. Don’t turn over the work.

Coming back round: yarn over and close the loop, * yarn over and close 2 loops together *, repeat from * to * to the end of the round. Don’t turn the work over.

1st round
Going forth round: 1 satin stitch in the space between the edge stitch and the following stitch, *1 satin stitch in each of the following spaces * repeat from * to * until the last 2 stitches, skip the last space, 1 edge stitch in the last stitch. To carry out the satin stitch, enter into the space between the indicated stitches, yarn over and pull out 1 loop. Don’t turn over the work.

Coming back round: like the foundation round.

2nd round
Going forth round: skip the 1st space, * 1 satin stitch done in the space between the space between the 2 following satin stitches *, repeat from * to * until the end of the round, 1 satin stitch in the space between the last satin stitch and the edge stitch, 1 edge stitch in the last stitch. Don’t turn the work over.

Coming back round: like the foundation round.

3rd round
Repeat always from the 1st round until you get the desired length.

Start with the part that precedes the 1st asterisk, repeat from * to * for all the round and finish with the part that follows the 2^nd asterisk.
