Once again we’re well into September and to say goodbye to the summer properly we’ve chosen a knit stitch that, well at least by name anyway, promises sea and sunshine. The Shell stitch! This knit stitch has a smooth background, decorated with cute shells, that look like small friezes.

We’ve used our Piuma yarn, in pure extra fine merino wool in the Flamingo colour to make the Shell stitch. Poofy and soft, it’s perfect for a stitch like this that needs large volume to be able to shine in all its glory.

How to do the Shell stitch (US)

MATERIALS
Piuma yarn col. Flamingo 100 g / 3.5 oz
Crochet hook n° 8 EU / L/11 US

METHOD
It can be knitted on a foundation row to create rows, columns and motifs.

To do 1 shell from left to right, skip the stitch that coincides with the last stitch you did, double crochet 1 into the following stitch from the previous round, from right to left and starting from the stitch you’ve just done, 1 treble crochet in the following stitch of the second to last round, 1 treble crochet in the stitch below of the third to last round, 1 treble crochet in the following stitch of the second to last round, 1 double crochet in the following stitch of the previous round, yarn over and bind the 5 loops on the hook off together, chain 1.

Start with the part that comes before the 1st asterisk, repeat from * to * for all the round and complete with the part that follows the 2nd asterisk.
