How to crochet the Tweed stitch

New week new knit stitch to learn how to do together! Today is all about the crochet Tweed stitch. A firm, plain stitch that’s easy to do and ideal for a blanket – perhaps a patchwork one – a scarf or a maybe even a shawl.

We’ve chosen Cyrcus, one of our Baby Alpaca and Merino yarns, for the crochet Tweed stitch. This yarn has also a slight mélange effect therefore making it really refined.

Let’s get started.

How to crochet the Tweed stitch

Chain a multiple of 2+2 for the foundation chain

Set-up round:
Forward pass: skip the last chain done, *insert the hook into the next chain, yarn over and come out of the chain leaving the loop on the hook * start again from * to * to the end of the round. Don’t turn the work over.

Return pass: yarn over and bind off 1 loop on the hook, *yarn over and bind off 2 loops together *, start again from * to * to the end of the round. Don’t turn the work over.

1st round
Forward pass: * simple stitch 1, twisted stitch 1, so taken from left to right and from top to bottom *, repeat from to * to until the last stitch, 1 edge stitch in the last stitch. Don’t turn the work over.

Return pass: as per set-up round.

2nd round
Forward pass: * twisted stitch 1, simple stitch 1 *, repeat from to * to until the last stitch, 1 edge stitch in the last stitch. Don’t turn the work over.

Return pass: as per the set-up round.

3rd round
Always repeat from the 1st round until you reach the desired length.

Start with the part that comes before the 1st asterisk, repeat from * to * for all the round and complete with the part that follows the 2nd asterisk.
