How to knit the alternating medium leaf stitch

For today’s tutorial we have chosen an astonishingly light stitch that, together with the delicacy of our Fluffy yarn in mohair and silk, allow you to achieve an incredible level of softness. Try it for yourself. The stitch in question is called the alternating medium leaf stitch and it’s the perfect stitch for knitting a mid-season sweater.




Tutorial stitch: alternating medium leaf stitch

MATERIALS
Fluffy yarn col. Shell 50 g / 1.76 oz
Knitting needle n° 4 EU / 6 US



METHOD

We work off foundation stitches in multiples of 12 + 13.

Row 1: we work on the reverse of the project, purl
row 2: knit 1, * yarn over needle 1, knit 3, stitch passed over 1, knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 3, yarn over needle 1, knit 1*, always repeat from * to * for the whole row
row 3: *purl 2, yarn over needle 1, purl 2, purl 2 together, purl 1, purl 2 together crossed, purl 2, yarn over needle 1, purl 1*, always repeat from * to * and bind off with purl 1
row 4: knit 1, *knit 2 , yarn over needle 1, knit 1, stitch passed over 1, knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 1, yarn over needle 1, knit 3*, always repeat from * to * for the whole row
row 5: *purl 4, yarn over needle 1, purl 2 together, purl 1, purl 2 together crossed, yarn over needle 1, purl 3*, always repeat from * to * and bind off with purl 1
row 6: knit 1, *knit 4, yarn over needle 1, double stitch passed over 1, yarn over needle 1, knit 5*, always repeat from * to * for the whole row
row 7: purl
row 8: knit 1, *knit 2 together, knit 3, yarn over needle 1, knit 1, yarn over needle 1, knit 3, stitch passed over 1, knit 1*, always repeat from * to * for the whole row
row 9: *purl 1, purl 2 together crossed, purl 2, yarn over needle 1, purl 3, yarn over needle 1, purl 2, purl 2 together*, always repeat from * to * and bind off with purl 1
row 10: knit 1, *knit 2 together, knit 1, yarn over needle 1, knit5 , yarn over needle 1, knit 1, stitch passed over 1, knit 1*, always repeat from * to * for the whole row
row 11: *purl 1, purl 2 together crossed, yarn over needle 1, purl 7, yarn over needle 1, purl 2 together*, always repeat from * to * and bind off with purl 1
row 12: stitch passed over 1, * yarn over needle 1, knit 9, yarn over needle 1, stitch passed over 1 double*, always repeat from * to * and bind off with yarn over needle 1, knit 9, yarn over needle 1, knit 2 together
row 13: repeat from row 1.


Begin with the stitch that precedes the first asterisk, repeat from * to * and bind off with the stitches that follow the second asterisk.
