How to knit the netting stitch

Are you here because you want to learn a new stitch. Well, we are here to appease you immediately! Today’s stitch is called the netting stitch and is carried out with knitting needles. Once you have knitted a piece of work using this point you will realise that you have a texture in front of you that closely resembles a neatly laid out net.

This stitch is perfect for knitting a hat, blanket, or a stole.

The yarn chosen for this stich is our Hokusai. Soft and shiny, with a hefty percentage of alpaca.

Tutorial: how to knit the netting stitch

MATERIALS
HokusaI yarn col. Turtledove 100 g / 3.5 oz
Knitting needles n° 6 EU / 10 US

METHOD
We work off a number of base stitches in multiples of 8+5.

From row 1 to row 3: *knit 1, 3 slip stitches purlwise, knit 4*, always repeat from * to * for the entire row and finish with knit 1, 3 slip stitches purlwise and knit 1.

To carry out 1 slip stitch purlwise: pass the stitch on the right needle, without working it, taking the thread from the wrong side and leaving it in front.

Riga 2: purl 1 row, knit 3 stitches, purl 1, *purl 4, 3 slip stitches knitwise, purl 1*, always repeat from * to * for the entire row.

To carry out 1 slip stitch knitwise: pass the stitch on the right needle, without working it, taking the thread from the wrong side and leaving it behind.

Row 4: Purl
from row 5 to row 7:
*knit 5, 3 slip stitches purlwise*, repeat from * to * for the entire row and finish with knit 5
row 6: purl 5, * 3 slip stitches knitwise, purl 5*, repeat from * to * for the entire row
row 8: purl
row 9: repeat from row 1.


Repeat from * to * for the whole row and finish with the stitches that follow the second *.
