How to knit the wave stitch

We introduce today’s stich to you by recounting a splendid poem by Emily Dickinson dedicated to the sea. We do this because with the wave stitch you will create a pattern with delicate waves that will cover your project. If you like the sea then you will adore this stitch which, if you listen closely, will allow you to hear the most wonderful sound in the world: the waves crashing on the shoreline.

As if the Sea should part,
And show a futher Sea –
And that – a futher – and the Three,
But a presumption be –
Of Periods of Seas –
Unvisited of Shores –
Themselves the Verge of Seas to be –
Eternity – is Those”
E.D.

The yarn selected for the wave stitch is Fluffy. Light and woolly it is perfect for this Project. On the shop you can find many more beautiful colours to choose from.

Let us begin.

Tutorial: how to knit the wave stitch

MATERIALS
Fluffy yarn col. Hydrangea 50 g / 1.7 oz
Knitting needle n° 4 EU / 6 US

METHOD

We work off a number of base stitches in multiples of 2.

Row 1 and for odd rows: knit rows.
row 2 and 4: purl 1, *2 knotted stitches*, always repeat from * to * and finish with 1 purl.

To knit 2 knotted stitches: bring the yarn behind the piece, pass 2 stitches on the right needle without kniting them and taking them to the wrong side, bring the yarn to the front, go over the 2 stitches from the right needle to the left needle and purl them.

Row 6, 8 and 10: Purl rows.
row 11: repeat from row 1.

Begin with the stitch that precedes the first *, repeat from * to * for the entire row and finish with the stitch that follows the second *.
