Luiza Caldari chooses our yarns for a wall hanging with a waterfall effect

Today, we’re introducing to you a Brazilian textile artist, Luiza Caldari, who has really wowed us with the texture she brings to her textile art and her amazing use of colors. Her color combos might seem bold at first, but they always turn out to be super striking. They’re balanced, well-matched, and just beautiful to look at.

Let’s get to know Luiza through her own words.

Luiza picked two of our yarns, Pop and Rain or Shine, to create one of her vibrant wall hangings. We absolutely love it, especially the central design that really makes it stand out.

Now, let’s hear what Luiza has to say. We’re so grateful she chose our yarns and showed once again that our yarns are perfect for hand weaving too.

I am Brazilian, born in São Paulo in 1988, and graduated in Fashion Design from FASM-SP. Initially, I worked as a fashion designer for renowned Brazilian brands such as Carlos Miele, Cris Barros, and Colcci. I moved to Santa Catarina after receiving an offer from Colcci, where I stepped away from my previous routine and began exploring manual tapestry, finding it to be my favorite form of expression. This year marks the 10th anniversary of my journey as a textile artist.

For many years, I balanced my career in fashion with developing tapestries until deciding to focus exclusively on textile design about 4 years ago. In the past few months, I have been dedicated to creating special projects and partnerships, including this recent one with DHG. Now that I don’t have specific future projects lined up, I’ll take the opportunity to explore new ideas, refine my weaving techniques, and let my imagination flow.

As an artist and textile designer, I aim to create unique and durable products, mindful of the responsibility of introducing something new into the world. I have a fascination for objects with history and hope that my creations will be appreciated for generations. I am an extremely observant and sensitive person, absorbing sounds, aromas, colors, and shapes around me as a source of inspiration.

Raised surrounded by nature, I enjoy spending my days hiking, practicing yoga, going to the beach, having lunches, and sharing moments with friends and family. In the evenings, I prefer to relax, cook, enjoy a glass of wine, watch series, and be with my two cats. My studio, located alongside my husband’s design company, is where we not only create but also photograph and film our pieces.

I prefer books over movies, I am eclectic in my choice of topics, and am currently reading “Siddhartha” by Hermann Hesse. But undoubtedly, what I love most is sitting at my loom and creating!

In creating a tapestry with DHG yarns, my focus was on showcasing the high quality of wool, which is rare to find in Brazil. I used graphic lines that converge in the middle, flowing to create a cascading wool effect.
