Shana Kohnstamm

Shana Kohnstamm is a textile artist. She was born in 1970 in Nashville, Tennessee where she currently lives and works. After attending the Art Academy of Cincinnati and the University of Tennessee, she began experimenting. She challenged herself by trying her hand at theatrical painting, jewelry making and stained glass design and fabrication, until she found what was to become her great passion: material wool art.

For us, Shana has made felt works combining wool, waxed linen, embroidery thread and glass beads. The techniques she used for these works were wet felting and needle felting. The result is a delicate collection evoking an enchanted Nature. Her works take us back to a time when we would fall asleep while reading fairy tales and then dream about strange characters and enchanted forests.

We decided give some of Shana’s soft sculptures an, almost, direct connection with children. Indeed, three of them will be up for sale and the proceeds will be donated to the Pedriatic Oncology Ward of the Meyer Children’s Hospital in Florence. You can find the artist’s work for sale at this webpage.

To find out more about Shana, read her interview on our blog.
