The second tutorial from the collection dedicated to accessories for knitters, or otherwise, is a roll-up knitting needle case. Practical, colourful and with so many pockets you can bring it with you everywhere whilst keeping all your needles organized! Creating this piece is once again Manuel Attardi with our Deluxe Faux Leather exclusively for our Readers.

Tutorial: how to make a knitting needle case

MATERIALS
1m of Deluxe Faux Leather col. Powder
5m of Deluxe Faux Leather Ribbon col. Honolulu 2.5cm
20cm of pvc
Coloured thread (2 colours)
Fabric scissors
Tailors’ scissors
Set square
Pencil
Pattern paper
Fabric glue

METHOD
First of all, let’s draw the pattern of our needle case by creating a 39x70cm rectangle and we’ll mark the positions of the panels inside:

– 1case, made up of 2 35×7 cm rectangles, with small tucks on the corners;
– 1 knitting needle holder, Deluxe Faux Leather col. Powder 16×30 cm rectangle;
– 1 needle holder, 16×16 cm pvc square;
– 1 circular needle holder, 10 x 16 cm PVC rectangle

Then cut the two pieces out that are going to create our Powder Deluxe Faux Leather case by sewing the two tucks on each side.

From the front side of the fabric we’re going to stitch all the way around the zip using the appropriate foot.

Finally let’s sew the case onto the base that was cut previously, leaving a side margin of 6cm while above and below we’re going to leave about 2cm.

Now let’s prepare the pocket for the knitting needles by cutting a 16×30 cm rectangle out of Deluxe Faux Leather col. Powder and hem it at the top with Deluxe Faux Leather Ribbon col. Honolulu.

Then place it at a distance of a few centimetres away from the case, keeping a straight bottom margin of about 2cm.
Now we’re going to stitch the sides and the bottom and then make vertical stitches to divide the spaces for the needles. About that, before starting to divide it up, it’s a good idea to take a minute to measure your own needles so that you can get the various sizes of the pockets right.
Now let’s move onto the pockets for the sewing needles, which in both cases we’re going to use PVC, cutting out a 16cm square at an angle and a 10×16 cm rectangle.
We’re going to hem the square, which is going to be the circular needle holder, at the top and stitch the remaining sides onto our base at a distance of about 2cm from the knitting needle holder and from the bottom.

For the sewing needle holder we’re going to hem it at the top and proceed as we did for the knitting needle holder and position it directly above the other PVC pocket.
Once we’ve finished sewing all the pockets we’re going to put plenty of glue on the back of the base of the needle case and stick on the other fabric rectangle that was previously cut and then wait a few minutes for the glue to set.
Now cut two strips of about 55cm of Deluxe Faux Leather Ribbon col. Honolulu h 2.5cm to make the strings that you need to close up the knitting needle case.
