A pom pom hat is a must have item in a winter wardrobe. It’s unisex, never goes out of fashion and suitable for all ages. So I couldn’t resist making one with our new cyrcus yarn. The result is amazing!

How to make a Pom Pom hat

MATERIALS
Cyrcus yarn (knitted in two lines) col. Sapphire 150 g / 5.2 oz
Sparkle yarn (assorted colours) col. Moon 30 g / 1 oz
Sierra yarn (assorted colours) col. Black Cherry 30 g / 1 oz
Knitting needle n° 12 EU / 17 US

KNIT-CROCHET STITCHES USED
Punto maglia inglese:
rib knit 1×1, knit the wrong side and transport without knitting and moving the yarn.
Rib knit 2×2:
we achieve this by knitting 2 and purling 2.
Drop-stitch to pass the rib stitch 2×2:
pass the slip-stitch over to the wrong side in the first knit-stitch and knit the second knit-stitch. At the end of the knitting needle you’ll find all the row and the rib-stitch will have disappeared.

The circumference of the hat is 55 cm / 22″

METHOD
Cast on 60 loops

Row 1: Rib-stitch 1×1
row 2: Fisherman’s Rib
row 3: Fisherman’s Rib
row 4: Fisherman’s Rib
row 5: Fisherman’s Rib
row 6: Fisherman’s Rib
row 7: Fisherman’s Rib
row 8: purl
row 9: rib-stitch 2×2 (start with 2 knit stitches)

Continue for 13 rows.

Row 22: knit row, knit the first row then cross the second over the third, knit the third then cross the fourth over the fifth. Continue like this till the end of the needle, remember to knit the second to last and last stitches together at the end. You’ll find yourself with 30 knit-stitches.

Row 23: knit row, knit the first row then cross the second over the third, knit the third then cross the fourth over the fifth. Continue like this till the end of the row, remember to knit the second to last and last stitches together at the end. You’ll find yourself with 16 knit-stitches.

Row 24: knit row, knit the first row then cross the second over the third, knit the third then cross the fourth over the fifth. Continue like this till the end of the row, remember to knit the second to last and last stitches together at the end. You’ll find yourself with 8 knit-stitches.

Row 25: knit row, knit the first row then cross the second over the third, knit the third then cross the fourth over the fifth. Continue like this till the end of the row, remember to knit the second to last and last stitches together at the end. You’ll find yourself with 4 knit-stitches.

Row 26: Knit 2 stitches together. You’ll find yourself with 2 knit-stitches.

Row 27: Close the stitches.

See the side of the hat starting from the top.

Finishing touch:
